No argument there - laugh-a-minute stuff.

Odd strategy for a political campaign, I think, but if it entertains ya ... Twisted Evil  Laughing

so george the bottom line of your proposition for dems is that if they can become republicans they have a chance at winning elections?

Only if you are unable to conceive of any other relatively self-consistent body of ideas that might appeal to a sufficient cross section of the population. f there is a limitation there, it is yours, not mine.

Perhaps you have never been to a real Republican Party.

Do the 'truly great' include Maxine Waters, Barbara Boxer, Ted Kennedy, and Robery Byrd?

Was that a counter-argument or just a substitute attempt at a put down?

mythology; the one not so benign flaw of both the dems and the repubs. both parties operate on a facade of created mythos that is converse to their mechanics in operation. they are equals in their subversions. there is no philosophical honesty emanating from either.

Too many absolutes here for my taste, but I agree that all politicians, particularly those in popular democracies indulge in games of myth and perception. It is different in Europe only as the somewhat different Parliamentsry systems generally in use there call for different styles and techniques. We can and should wish and work for better, but this is a process that does indeed reflect the contradictions and imperfections of the himan beings being represented.

What does "philosophical honesty" mean to you? Among philosophers it usually is a reference to one who agrees with the speaker.

By and large, a politician is one firmly committed to imposin' his idea of good on us with our money.

The Dems have a tough row to hoe. I mean, how can they hope to demonstrate the sort of compassion we see in the modern Republican?

Quote:
DENVER (AP) -- Gov. Bill Owens vetoed a bill that would have required hospitals to tell rape victims about emergency contraception, saying it would have forced church-backed institutions to violate their own ethics guidelines.

Owens, a Roman Catholic Republican who has campaigned on conservative values, said the measure was well-intentioned but probably unconstitutional and did not provide victims with balanced information needed to make a deeply personal decision.

``Without informed consent, a woman could innocently violate her personal, moral and religious beliefs about when life begins,'' Owens said Tuesday.

Blatham, this is a good example of the unnecessary and intrusive bureaucratic meddling in the affairs of others so favored by liberals. The unstated presumption here is that without specific direction and enforcement from government (accompanied by forms, reports and the unnecessary baggage that invariably attends this crap) the necessary information will neither be requested by the patient nor provided by the doctor. This is an unwarranted assumption. Next we will have government regulation telling egg-suckers how to suck eggs.

The relationships between doctors and patients are just that - between doctors and patients. Government direction here is redundant, wasteful, and intrusive. It is an assault on the freedom and individual choices of both doctor and patient.

If Republicans oppose this nonsense the response will invariably be that Republicans oppose providing victims and patients information they need at a critical moment. The truth is they oppose only the government interference in the private, voluntary professional relations between doctor and patient. The world is full of problems - most of them are NOT amenable to government solutions.
