BTW, as for Ohio, Bush picked up 444,938 more votes than he had in 2000. Kerry picked up 473,474 more votes than Gore had in 2000.

(I know, it doesn't matter.)

dag, do they allow same-sex marriages in the EU?

Actually, if I really wanted to, I'd have a much easier time than most escaping. Hubby has been asked to apply for many, many European jobs. Not my preference. Yet.

Philosophical daughter of mine. Just told her, finally. She said "oh noo!!!" and slumped to the ground. (Literally.) Then she held my hands and looked at me sadly and said, "that's too bad." Then she was telling me about something that happened at school today, moment over.

I've been a little numb since concession speech.

Just did a search for 2000 election and then compared to the 2004 results on MSNBC and CNN by state.

The 2000 info was at www.fec.gov/pubrec/2000resgeresults.htm

Smile This reminds me of this entry in Franz Kafka's diary: "July 28 1914. Austria declared war on Serbia. Went swimming in the afternoon."

When I went to vote there was a bowl of candy with a sign that said you could have a piece if you voted for Bush.

Consequently, a city of 90% democrats voted to reelect Bush...

I'm so sorry Kerry didn't make it. I talked to some colleagues in Berkeley, and they half-jokingly said they were going to apply for political asylum in Germany. If any one of you wants to follow their example, I'll be happy to be of help.

Take them - The People's Republic of Bezerkley has lots of loonies to spare. Happily our Austrian imported Governator is limiting their influence on that overtaxed and regulated nanny state. (The prospect of returning to the land of 10% state income tax, applied to both income and capital gains, and an 8.5 % sales tax has me a bit worried.)

I decided to spend the rest of the day doing domestic stuff and left off the TV. My husband was pleasantly surprised to find a full course meal for a change. So I missed the concession speech.

Was he gracious? Was he stiff? I wish I had seen it. But I can't make myself turn on the news to watch reruns of it. Maybe they will have a video of it somewhere on internet in couple of days.

I think that we should just let this country that voted for President Bush for whatever reason, have free reign to do whatever they want without saying a word or doing anything to stop it. Like that old saying, "be careful what you wish for."

Really what choice do we have anyway? We don't control anything at all in this country and I don't see that we will any time in the distant future.

We feel so out-of-synch -- the hopeful party I was at last night ended with little to cheer about, other than we will continue to maintain our two female senators in Congress.

I wonder if Canada would consider annexing a long bit of Pacific coastline all the way to Mexico?

Why don't you seccede and build Pacifica, a cool- groovy, multi-cultured, multi-layered, non-smoking, movie-producing, hip-hoping, very-rich nation?
I guess the US would ask you to keep the San Diego naval base though, as it has Guantanamo in Cuba... but San Diego is already a red spot, isn't it?

Interesting headlines from Reuters:

Bush Win Sends Oil Near $51 a Barrel
Wed Nov 3, 2004 03:34 PM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Oil prices surged more than $1 on Wednesday as the re-election of President Bush countered the impact of a big increase in spare oil supplies ahead of winter.
Crude dealers said Bush's victory over Democrat Senator John Kerry could bolster U.S. fuel demand and underscore anxiety over the security of Middle East oil shipments...

"A Bush victory will be big for oil demand and keep prices high," said Phil Flynn, an analyst at Alaron Trading in Chicago. "Not only will the SPR be filled, but I think they may expand it."

The Bush White House has said it plans to fill the final 30 million barrels of the 700 million barrel Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) by next year, which adds to already strong demand from end-users.

Prices had tumbled from last week's record high at $55.67, pressured by speculation that a win for Kerry would halt deliveries into the SPR, and do more to encourage energy conservation.

Boy, wouldn't want to do something like conserve!

Or maybe Mexico would like to extend their Pacific coast north??? We could make big money for you, leasing Coronado Island to the Federales.
