I can take it with or without ........ doesn't slow or hasten the process much.
It's only a few, quick, scrawny, tough bites anyway....
Whew - small update on my life over the last week!
I shall copy in an IM I sent to Boida, who kindly asked after my welfare!
"You wouldn't believe what has been going on!
A friend, who is a cabinet minister in our state government, wanted me to come on board with her for 6 months to help out with changes to the child protection system. At 10,000 bucks more, btw.
So - with great difficulty and at a lot of sacrifice, my team released me, cos they felt it was an important thing to be doing.
There was a cabinet re-shuffle on Wednesday, my second day in the new job - my friend has gone to new portfolios, but I was staying, along with the other Ministerial Liaison officers, to assist the new minister. (This is apparently what always happens - I had discussed it with my friend already, cos we knew a re-shuffle was coming.)
Yesterday - (Thursday) -The new minister announced that he was not taking on any staff from the portfolios, (this is apparently unheard of) but was replacing us with his own people. This happened, I learned later, cos theIndustrial Relations Minister , who also got new portfolios, had a tanty, and insisted on keeping HIS staff - causing a sort of domino effect) My position at the old job has been filled by a contract person - so I cannot return for six months.
Apparently, they have to find me a job - but the stress just got to me - it was such a drama leaving - and all that disruption and **** for nothing. Not sure if they have to pay me at the new level for that six months.
Sigh.
Worse things happen at sea."
And indeed they do. I am, in fact, refusing to go - as far as I am concerned there is a contract, so I am meeting of Tuesday with various bigwigs to see if there is another position where my particular expertise can be used to good effect for six months. However, this is spooky - with a ministerial position I had a lot of very subtle, understated power to use with the rather nasty "bully-girls" (or the Donna Nostra, as I call them) who dominate in the upper reaches of the relevant department - (heard about them for years, finally got to meet one of the smeggers on Friday - spooooooooky) - I will be a minnow in the spooky pond with lots of barracuda in an ordinary project officer position. Still - I won't be working there again, they have no say in my normal working life, and I can be pretty tough (in spurts - between episodes of extreme wussiness) so we will see.
Now THAT was a digression! My brief life in the centre of a teeny bit of power!
But other than that, Deb. How has your week been?
Good grief, Aussie. Something tells me that you will do fine.
Something tells me Letty is quite right.
Sounds a right bummer, Deb. But keep a stiff lower lip and p'raps all will be well, and all will be well, and all manner of things will be well.
Remember this rule of thumbin' ... given the option, take the money an' hitch another ride.
When doors close, others open, something good will happen for you...
Lordy, deb! Quelle drama!
The suckiest part is that you may be stripped of the power you were counting on.
Perhaps they won't be able to find anything for you to do, but they will be contractually bound to pay you at that higher salary, and you will have 6 months' paid vacation? :-D
Lol! I will have a job - I just don't wanna push the person who filled in for me out - cos her position ends in a ouple of months....AND I want the higher pay, dammit! I didn't know if I had one there for a few hours though.
I only wanted the bit of power cos of how nasty some of the people are in the area.
We shall see...
A paid holiday might have been fun - but I will be expected to find gainful employment or return to my old job!
What a mess, Deb!
Good luck in finding something suitable in this confusing situation. I hope you know what's happening soon.
LOL! I am still standing up cos they nailed me to the perch.....
Dlowan,
How well do you swing a purse?
tee hee
When it comes to YOUR impertinence, Mr de Kere, I could swing one with stunning impact and accuracy, I do assure you. Perhaps I should keep a brick in it.....? Hmmmmmmmmmm............
Just remember one thing, Deb. If these people are bullying you, it's because they're scared. They're administrators and politicians who, likely, have no idea what they're doing. You're a professional and they sense that. The smell of fear must be overpowering in those halls.
No, no - the politicians aren't bullying anyone. In fact, nobody is bullying me - yet.
I AM skeert of the bullies in the welfare department, though - dunno if they are scared of anything though!
I can guarantee they won't be scared of me!

Not good, not good ......
Life offers digressions on a platter. Thank goodness, the dlowan is always (?) in the mood for a digression.
