There is a real German spy mystery that has been going on in the town of Stoneham for 60 years. Only a handfull of people know about it, and I happen to be one.
Are you familiar with it?

It's just incredibly interesting and I was wondering if you were aware.

This man named Vilhelm built a cabin in a very remote area and claimed to be a sociologist who came here to study how Americans lived. But the guy lived like a wealthy hermit, equipped with a ham radio. The cabin is gorgeous.
It has 5 bedrooms all with sinks, (odd for a single man who has no relatives in this couuntry) a fireplace made from huge quartz boulders. It isn't fancy, just nice for a cabin in the middle of nowhere.

Pulling out the old "smarty pants" card, eh?

I wasn't prepared for such a vicious attack and am not prepared for a counterattack at the present time.

The view this cabin has is beautiful. I'm trying to remember details. Copper edging on the outside steps. Hand carved granite picnic table outside, (someone told me they thought the table was for slaughtering animals).
I'm still thinking...hold on.

The cabin has two stories, the ceiling in the living room is cathedral, so if your standing in the hall on the second floor you can look down into the living room.
The woodwork used for the railings, that surround the cathedral opening on the second floor are made of white birch that still has the bark on it, the birch isn't cut, it's bent, curvy, and is still firm and sturdy, no play when you touch it. A large man could lean on it and it won't move.
This rustic cabin is built better than most modern houses.

I once started a thread about HH. In it I told pretty much all I knew about life on the road, as did some other good folks.

You can really practice your whistling when you wait beside the road. And the people who are passing you are never to be told, that thumbing your way road side might seem like a thing of the past...but when you look at the brother hood of Strangers then you start to think about stopping and picking up that HH"

I was always torn woth using my thumb or writing out a sign.I was thinking the sign made you look twice as hard as just looking and maybe that made a difference if you can involve the driver more than simply thumbing. Sometimes you would put a sign outfor lest say florida when your hitching to Boston. Alot of people seemed to stop faster becaus e I had a longer way to go.
