According to the front page of today's NYTimes, New Jersey physicians are withholding services, in protest of the rates of malpractice insurance.
One of the services being withheld by the MDs is routine mammography of women to screen for breast cancer.
How many women with lumps in their breasts are now seeing their lawyers in N.J, instead of their physicians, because mammography services have been terminated? How many women will die from breast cancer, because they've been denied basic, routine, screening procedures for breast cancer?
When I had a mammogram done earlier this year, it was done by a technician. The doctor poked his head in (I'd never seen him before, or since - he's not my doc) for about a second - "Everything okay?"
So, can't they do mammograms without a doctor being present?
Interesting since I'm having one tomorrow am.
You're having a mammogram? <looking puzzled>
The X-ray picture of female breast may be shot by certified technician. But only a doctor may analyze the results and come to conclusion whether a woman needs treatment.
Yes Jespah - having one....
uhoh! Everything ok Husker?
Jespah:
The technician only works the machine and then checks the film for clarity.
You have to have a radiologist, MD read the film for abnormalities. Sometimes not a very easy thing to do.
I hope so..
well errr I'd rather find out that I just have a cyst or something that's bugging me, rather than having male breat cancer. Doc said I was pretty lumpy - no wondering if it's all those years of football - shoulderpads.
Yes, actually there are a lot of mistakes by the specialists, hence the malpractice suits.
Breast cancer can occur in both men and women. It seems to occur more frequently in women, presumably because of estrogen involvement.
Thanks LiL'k
Trying not to get excited right now, was able to get the test moved from the 14th to the 5th, that helps a great deal in mental perspective.
You can say what you want I think most of my issues come from having to much Testosterone and Adrenalin. I do have my soft side though....
I must've been in space when posting to this particular topic.
Yes, of course, the technician can perform the test, but then someone needs to read and interpret the results, and that person must be a professional. After all, performing countless tests is useless if no one's around to read the results.
And husker, yes, I knew there was (rare, fortunately) male breast cancer. Let's all hope it's nothing, just a cyst. Best wishes on the 5th.
Husker- Good Luck on the 5th!

This link might be useful. So few men get breast cancer, I would guess that whatever, you have is not malignant.
