@edgarblythe,
Also, the mechanic always quotes the highest possible price. He will say, "X dollars or less." Very often he will end up charging less. When I was having troubles with the ignition switch, he told me he did not want to replace more parts than necessary. After he took some of it apart and was not certain where the exact location of the problem lay, he put a light on it. He said, "If the ignition won't start the truck, pay attention if the light lights up. That will tell me if the problem is in the upper or lower end of the system." He didn't charge me for his efforts. Several years later, that light is still installed, but whatever he did when examining it reset it so I have never had any more such problems.
@edgarblythe,
Didn't mean to imply that the mechanic was trying to rip you off, $500 could be a reasonable price for a first time 100k mile service. If the only item is a fuel filter it might be a bit much though..
@Leadfoot,
He charges $59 to change a filter like mine.
I tired. Mowed the yard, earlier. Wandered around in the new Aldi store and bought a few things. General cleaning. Need to find a mindless flick and veg out.
@edgarblythe,
Installed another lock on our garage door before we leave for Hawaii tomorrow.
My wife worries, but we live in one of the safest communities in Silicon Valley.
@cicerone imposter,
She is wise, CI. When you return, it should be intact and safe.
@edgarblythe,
$59 for a fuel filter change is very OK. Your mechanic sounds like a keeper.
It has been one of those dreary weeks, in which the sun fails to shine and the rain comes and goes constantly. Today is the topper. It was raining when I got up and it's raining still. Tomorrow should be dry, but the sun is not expected until Monday. I rode the stationary bike on the porch. May do the weights in a bit. Me n Rocky's bored.
Rocky has taken to napping in my chair.
So I got the truck tuned up this day and aired up some of the tires. It's expensive to keep up an old vehicle, but they all cost you, sooner or later.
I know it seems I am spinning my wheels, with regard to a final edit of my newest book, but it will be available to a publisher soon enough. I predict some will reject it on the choice of language in some places. All it takes is the right one seeing it. Writing two other stories at the same time.
Rocky likes it, and I trust him.
@ossobucotemp,
I depend on that dog for companionship. Sometimes he is the only one I see, other than my wife, for days at a time.
@edgarblythe,
Dogs never get bored with us. I don't know why, but I'm grateful.
@edgarblythe,
We had a dog when our children were young, and we lived in Fremont, CA. There was a park across the street, and he loved to run back and forth from where we were. We named him joey, and I still remember him with love. Although I promised myself to get a dog after retirement, I was gone too often on trips.
My dog loves people, but rarely gets a visitor. So, when people come in the yard, he is hard to control. He used to jump on people, but I mostly got him to quit that. Imagine a hundred pound dog jumping on you, hard, because his feet are off the ground when he makes contact.
A while back, my wife's one hearing aid went out. She could still function by putting the other one in the opposite ear than the one for which it was intended. At the hearing aid place we were using, the person who examined it told us it needed a major repair, which would take a couple of weeks and cost well over three hundred dollars. My wife brought it home, instead. After a time, the other one began failing. We looked online for a repair place close to home. About ten minutes away, we discovered a knowledgeable and industrious hearing aid specialist. It took him just minutes to repair both hearing aids and he charged $75 each. I told him I wish we had discovered him a few years ago. Today, we saw him again, because the first one I mentioned quit working. He repaired it for free, because it was not so long ago that he worked on it. I told him I would feel better about it if he charged us for the repair. He said he was being nice, because he wants us to come to him when we buy a new set. We feel grateful enough that I am certain that is what we will do.
@edgarblythe,
I've been tested several times and several times, from around 2000, and can't do it re money. I ran it through UNM a while ago, and, after tests, thank them, it came to about $2500. to get aid. I don't have that kind of money.
Call me ms. what.
@edgarblythe,
Some people have good business sense. Rather than a one time profit, customers will return, and tell their friends who to go to for hearing aid repairs.
@ossobucotemp,
Through some program known to my daughter, some years back, when she lived in Austin, she got my wife some very good hearing aids for free. They are getting old now. The man has a payment program that we are planning to use, when it's time.
@cicerone imposter,
I am willing to spread the word.
