Cheese lovers are better in bed: US poll
By IANS | Updated: Apr 11, 2015

NEW YORK: Good food gets you in good mood and what's better that having a grilled cheese tonight to get more action in the bedroom.

According to a poll by the social networking and dating site Skout, people who love grilled cheese have more sex than people who do not.

Grilled cheese sandwich eaters are also more charitable and more adventurous, the poll of 4,600 people discovered.

According to the findings, 32 percent of grilled cheese fans have sex at least six times a month.

Over 80 percent of people who ate grilled cheeses said they have donated their time, money or food to the needy.

Meanwhile, only 66 percent of people who disliked grilled cheese said they are charitable.

Also, 84 percent of grilled cheese sandwich fans love to travel compared to 78 percent of people who dislike the sandwich.

"In an ongoing effort to engage with our community, we thought that US National Grilled Cheese Day would be a fun way to gauge the habits and behaviours of our users," said Christian Wiklund, co-founder and CEO of Skout in a statement.

Grilled cheese sandwiches are a traditional US comfort food that almost everybody enjoys yet the sandwich can be created in a bunch of different ways.

"It is interesting to see how different our users are, but they all have one thing in common: the grilled cheese sandwich," Wiklund added.

Nearly 60 percent of adults surveyed said they prefer a grilled cheese sandwich that mixes two types of cheeses. Only 40 percent were grilled cheese purists.

@reasoning logic,
This is uneven and comes across as more of a political screed than actual analysis. For instance, the conflating of two different issues — the hacking of the DNC and ensuing wiki leaks is grouped together with the proliferation of fake news. It's not "hypocritical" to describe Podesta and the DNC as "victims" and additionally to attack the purveyors of misinformation, because they were different operations, one largely controlled by Russia and the fake news industry pretty much a clickbait generating machine run by East European nerds. You can see this is at 9:20 or so in the clip.

@hightor,
Reasoning Logic has a track record of posting inane, nonsensical videos and then trying to get other people to watch them and give him feedback. Once you watch one he'll just post more and more of the crap and expect a response to those too.

It's a complete waste of time, RL has no discernment whatsoever, he cannot tell **** from shinola and even takes David Icke seriously. That's the same David Icke who claimed to be the son of God and back in 1999 prophesised that Cuba would sink beneath the waves before the new millennium dawned.

@izzythepush,
which remins me "Today, the 47th Earth Day" has a new way to plotz a bit. We have "Marches for Science" that somehow got cobbled together as a kind of mild protest against some perceived "war on SCience" by Ultr Conservative Christin Republicans.

I SAY-**** em. If theyre too stupid to recognize facts and evidence, we really should jut pile up patents on our own and let em buy from us.

Im always amazed at how, every year at "Darwin Day" we get these picketing crowds of yahoos who want Creation and ID taught as science .

Are we doomed yet??

Funny you mention patents, the kid has just got a job with a law firm who specialise in intellectual property. Patents have been a major topic of conversation this week.

LONDON — Sky, the British satellite television giant, has been a most elusive crown jewel for the Murdoch family.

The last time a company led by Rupert Murdoch tried to acquire Sky, it was News Corporation, and the deal was abandoned amid a phone hacking scandal. Now, Mr. Murdoch, the executive co-chairman of 21st Century Fox, and his sons James and Lachlan are again vying for control of the 60.9 percent of Sky shares that 21st Century Fox does not already own. And again there are calls for British regulators to consider a scandal, this one involving sex harassment allegations at Fox News Channel in the United States that led to the ousters of Roger E. Ailes, the network’s longtime chairman, and Bill O’Reilly, its top star.

On Friday, Britain postponed its regulatory review of 21st Century Fox’s proposal to take full control of Sky until after the country’s general election in June. The regulator, the Office of Communications, or Ofcom, is reviewing the potential effects of the potential acquisition on competition in the media industry and also assessing whether the combined company would be “fit and proper” to hold a broadcasting license.
NYT
As I said the other day, if Ofcom finally sides with Murdoch, that will be a dead certain indicator that his corrupting influence in Brit politics is not markedly diminished.

Today's winner in the "Oh golly. No details. Big surprise, that" category
Quote:
The White House will release on Wednesday the “broad principles and priorities” of their plans to overhaul federal taxes, a White House official said Friday night, downplaying expectations that the Trump administration would reveal key details underpinning the plan.
WP
As with seven years of missing details re ACA repeal/replace, this is just a marketing/propaganda technique. "Broad principles and priorities" are ideological boilerplate including claims of inevitable wonderfulness. With this instance, we're bound to get "through allowing productive members of the nation to keep more of what they earn through hard work and good old American initiative, all boats will be raised". And as with the ACA details when they finally emerged, these tax reform details are going to work towards the standard GOP goal - give more to the very wealthy and punish everyone else.

This US President supports and defends Putin and his regime. This US President expresses support for Marine Le Pen.

Nothing proto-fascist going on here. Nothing at all. The US has a Liberty Bell and that will protect everybody.

There's never been a political party in America as truly populist as this one.
Quote:
Citing Exxon Mobil’s right to “free speech,” 11 state attorneys general — all Republicans — filed in court this week to stop an investigation into the oil and gas giant’s decades-long history of climate denial.

The attorneys general — from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin — filed a brief to support Exxon’s request to stop the so-called “Exxon Knew” investigation, arguing that there is a “public policy debate” over climate change and that the investigation is an “unconstitutional abuse” of power.
Think Progress
They are looking out for you little people. They're not going to be seduced and tempted by big money and power and those despicable lobbyists who try to give them money for political campaigns.

I'm not a big fan of editorial page editor at the WP, Fred Hyatt mainly because of his affinity with a lot of neoconservative ideas and voices. But his hire in the case of Ed Rogers (not one of the neoconservative crowd) is particularly egregious.

Rogers first came to my attention when Obama was first running for the WH and Rogers was sitting in as a holiday replacement for Chris Matthews. In one of those appearances as guest host, Rogers advanced the strategy (the first instance of it I saw or read) of referring to the Dem candidate as "Barrack HUSSEIN Obama". The intent of this was obvious - smear Obama by suggesting a relationship with Sadaam, with Arabs and with Muslims. Rogers is a propagandist. But the following is stuff I did not know.
Quote:
The Washington Post has repeatedly failed to inform readers about major financial conflicts of interest in pieces by opinion writer Ed Rogers. Rogers is a leading Republican lobbyist who has used his Post column to advocate for the interests of his firm’s clients without disclosure in at least a dozen instances since the beginning of 2016.

Rogers writes for the publication’s PostPartisan blog. His columns also regularly appear in the Post’s physical edition and are syndicated across the country through its syndication service.

The Republican lobbyist is the chairman of the BGR Group, which he co-founded in 1991. The firm is one of the country’s largest lobbying groups and had over $17 million in lobbying revenue in 2016.

His Post credentials are touted to potential clients in his corporate biography, which states: “Since 2011, Ed has been an opinion writer for the Washington Post, where he writes about politics and the current state of affairs in Washington, D.C., from a Republican point of view.”

Lobbying experts told Media Matters that the Post’s arrangement with a lobbyist of Rogers’ stature is “rare” and “highly unusual.”

Lee Drutman, a senior fellow at New America and author of The Business of America is Lobbying, said that “It's pretty rare for a megalobbyist to have a gig as a columnist in such a prominent venue.”

He added that while it’s hard to quantify how much the Post column helps his lobbying business since Rogers “has plenty of influence with or without his columns ... it almost certainly helps him. I can't imagine his gig as a Post columnist isn't part of his pitch to potential clients.”

Tim LaPira, a James Madison University associate professor who studies lobbying, agreed that the Post’s “arrangement is highly unusual.”

“Most lobbyists do not promote ideas in the public domain on their own behalf, under their own name,” LaPira said. “I doubt anybody has ever kept track of how common it is for lobbyists to write regular columns like this because it is so rare.”
Media Matters
A fundamental reason US politics is so corrupt is the incredible amounts of money to be made by individuals and corporations on the periphery of political operations. That Hyatt and the Post do not move to disassociate themselves from this stuff has to do with, of course, money.

For those interested in media issues in the US...

I've mentioned and recommend Jay Rosen's work frequently. Let me to so again. The link below is to the notes/projections from a recent lecture he gave on news media. This provides a succinct and easily graspable view into what he's doing and thinking on this subject post-Trump. Be sure to hover your cursor over the little orange box in the top left corner of each slide.
http://pressthink.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/NYU-Winter-is-Coming-Talk.pdf
(as Jay notes elsewhere, the title "winter is coming" has nothing to do with Game of Thrones. It's the title of a book by Kasparov on Putin/Russia.

There are a number of videos of his lectures on youtube which I strongly recommend for a deeper and more complete peek into what Jay is doing.

Letter from Tillerson to Speaker Ryan clarifies that Iran is abiding by the terms of the nuclear agreement .

But this is an inconvenient "message" for Trump and the GOP to now advance given the years of reliance in their rhetoric of MUSLIM TERRORISM LOOMS TO KILL ALL YOUR CHILDREN IN HELLFIRE UNLESS YOU VOTE REPUBLICAN!"

So, the corrective measure, Trump says
Quote:
They are not living up to the spirit of the agreement, I can tell you that

Now, if you were to ask Trump just what he means, what you'd surely get is something like this:
"They just aren't. Believe me. They're horrible people. They foment terrorism. It's incredible. Horrible people. Really horrible."

There might be a cogent argument that could be made here ("I wish the agreement had been broader", or some such) but then Trump would have to have some idea of how that might have actually been achieved and the chances he has any such reality-based idea or plan in mind is zero.

Just imagining that Trump even understands his phrase "spirit of the agreement" in this case is delusional. Someone might have said that to him but that he's put in any serious study or thought on this - har de har har.

Gotta be sharp cheddar. And butter the toast before grilling. And slice the sammies diagonally (although the slicing thing is optional).
