@blatham,
I’m not a huge Will Ferrell fan, and apart from when I was on holiday in Crete when it was on the telly in the hotel bar, I’ve never watched Eurovision.

Yesterday's protesters did not use violence against anyone.

Looked like a welcoming committee of just one guy.

Someone has described Twitter's pledge to permanently ban Trump if he further violates their community standards as their 'bold new "Two coups and you're out" policy'.

@lmur,
The government really needs to crack down on these tech companies, and maybe even break them up.

@lmur,
Only partly tongue in cheek, it seems to me that there's been two attempted coups already:
- the mass lies about election fraud & Trumps likely multiple phone calls like the one to the Georgia SOS (as an attempt to overthrow the election), but rejected by: all the courts, and all the states (even the Republican ones, and even with their multiple recounts)
- the Storming of Capital Hill

In any event, social media have suspended people before for inciting violence or hatred. It's odd for people to come out and defend a person for doing so, just because of his office or rank - those who should be held more accountable, due to their office, sway and influence. As this particular incitement was done by a party of people, each person that contributed should be banned, even if temporarily.

In relation to the ability of the mob to invade your Capitol Hill - I'm incredibly surprised the police weren't more prepared - I thought it likely from the moment Trump said they were going to protest and said "Be there. It's going to be wild"...and then multiple people kept inciting. So the likelihood of a riot was very high....and yet it seems like the police didn't bother properly preparing for that eventuality...because they were white? I mean, it is the only conclusion I can draw, given how predictable the events that unfolded were.

@vikorr,
Hardly attempted coups. Be serious.

@oralloy,
Well, I consider the first an attempted coup...if a very poor one. The second not, even if it can be seen as an attempt to pressure the outcome - and it certainly did stop the vote. As I said, only partly tongue in cheek.

Quote:
Both reactions underscore a truth that black Americans have long known: it is safer to be white and wrong than it is to be black and right.

Grief is only legitimate when aired by white voices. That is our American legacy.

It is why a black man can kneel for the national anthem and receive the ire of a nation. It is why white men can storm the Capitol Building dressed in military fatigues, draped in the rebel flag, and toast to their own patriotism upon arrival.

Both are fruits of the same grisly tree.

Posting again, for the slow learners; anyone who thinks this was an attempted coup, needs a lesson in logistics.

Read the comments; it's a giggle aplenty.

Congress gave themselves two weeks off, to "get over the stress" of the "coup".

Meaning they don't want to deal with the obvious fraud of the election results, before inauguration of the criminal-elect Biden.

Simon & Schuster Cancels Plans for Senator Hawley’s Book

“We did not come to this decision lightly,” Simon & Schuster said in a statement. “As a publisher
it will always be our mission to amplify a variety of voices and viewpoints: At the same time
we take seriously our larger public responsibility as citizens, and cannot support
Senator Hawley after his role in what became a dangerous threat
...”

glad to see there are repercussions for the R's who went along with 45's charade...

I have to wonder what you think the word 'logistics' means.

Dare I hope it’s true? The House Dems are sounding pretty resolute about getting rid of Trump NOW - not in 13 days. They’re saying either Pence and the cabinet use the 25th amendment, or they will impeach again.

Fingers crossed.

@snood,
If they impeach again, the result will be another acquittal. It will also firm up Republican resolve to impeach Joe Biden in 2023.
