More than 130 Secret Service officers are said to be infected with coronavirus or quarantining in wake of Trump’s campaign travel

Quote:
More than 130 Secret Service officers who help protect the White House and the president when he travels have recently been ordered to isolate or quarantine because they tested positive for the coronavirus or had close contact with infected co-workers, according to three people familiar with agency staffing.

The spread of the coronavirus — which has sidelined roughly 10 percent of the agency’s core security team — is believed to be partly linked to a series of campaign rallies that President Trump held in the weeks before the Nov. 3 election, according to the people, who, like others interviewed for this report, spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the situation.

The outbreak comes as coronavirus cases have been rapidly rising across the nation, with more than 152,000 new cases reported Thursday.

The virus is having a dramatic impact on the Secret Service’s presidential security unit at the same time that growing numbers of prominent Trump campaign allies and White House officials have fallen ill in the wake of campaign events, where many attendees did not wear masks.

Among those who are infected are White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and outside political advisers Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie.

In addition, at least eight staffers at the Republican National Committee, including Chief of Staff Richard Walters, have the virus, according to officials at the organization. Some of those infected are in field offices across the country, including Pennsylvania, where some believe they were exposed in large staff gatherings, an official said.

@blatham,
It will be interesting to see what convoluted story Trump concocts to accompany his exit from public service. And entertaining to see how readily it is accepted by his deluded flock of armed white supremacists, tearful Karens, and rightist Christian dead-enders. How does he walk back the ridiculous threats and theories he's promoted without exposing himself as a total fraud and a political failure?

@Region Philbis,
I find myself playing the devil's advocate every once in a while. But, there have been two times we have ignored social distancing. In the BLM protest and on the day we found out Biden won. Granted on the latter at least, most wore mask. On both it was spontaneous gatherings of individuals and not actually put on by official functions so speak.

Still on the whole, I think the country had become COVID weary with the result of rising infections and death. We all need to get serious about it like and do all the wise things Dr. Fauci recommends in practice. I hope and I do think he has, Biden has a comprehensive plan to better deal with the virus once and for all. Deal with it, not learn to live with it as we all have been doing. Sadly as Biden said, "learning to die with it."

This is why I bet the Secret Service agents would all pay good money to be put on any detail that gets to escort this POS “president” out of the White House. Their duty was to be close to him during all his no-mask wearing, stupid ass super spreading activities.

There’s been a knock on effect over here, certain high ranking advisers have been sacked from Downing Street, most notably Dominic Cummings, who has just this minute been sacked.

Cummings is quite a controversial figure, a leading proponent of Brexit who famously drove from London to Durham after being diagnosed with Covid. He upset a lot of Tory backbencher by referring to the government as the Brexit government.

Now having a right wing **** like this in a senior position might have been an advantage dealing with Trump, but Biden’s not going to be impressed by a slimy weasel like Cummings.

Walter, it should be clear to you by know that most Americans couldn't give two shits about what happens in other countries. They have no real impact on America or American lives.
What happens in Albania does not have any bearing on what happens in America. There is no country in the world like America for a reason.

The rest of the world knows how poorly educated many Americans are on world events. This is not a strength, it's a weakness. Most Americans rely on their elected officials to worry about such things. I think that's dangerous, like allowing your idiot cousin to handle your money. Americans who do keep up on the World are unlikely to engage with folks like you because it's obvious how boring you find it. Although many people are more interested in watching 'Dancing with the Stars', the US still needs experts, scholars, target, lingiusts, and diplomats to protect the US and our Allies from malevolent forces. The World had endured punishing wars and many people want to avoid/prevent the wholesale slaughter and economic destruction from ever occurring again. That's where the other Americans come in, they understand the necessity of Allies, understanding other cultures, alertness to power imbalance and all the other things that nourish freedom and democracy.

As far as Americans not caring about what happens around the World, Hell, our fellow citizens in Wyoming are oblivious to the concerns and issues of the citizens of Mississippi. But that's because we are lazy and can't see the need to stuff our heads with information.

The crisis isn’t Trump. It’s the Republican Party.

Quote:
If this were happening in another country, we would be talking about a populist authoritarian seeking to create disillusion with democracy in his country in order to have a base of supporters who will help him return to power. But I don’t think we have to talk about it as if it were another country.

The Economist published a graphic showing which governemts are following the science on covid-19. Both New Zealand and China have successfully controlled the virus by strictly following science while the United States, by sidelining and ignoring scientists, fails to control it:

Someone explain how Trump lost 20,000 vote in PA? The video just showed proof that it happened. It happened and it cannot be walked back. It is on record in real time.

Supreme Court goes idle on Trump-related disputes and time is running out

Quote:
Has the Supreme Court hit the pause button on all things President Trump?

The justices for more than three weeks have been holding on to the president’s last-ditch plea to shield his private financial records from Manhattan’s district attorney.

Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. last Friday directed Pennsylvania election officials to segregate mail-in votes received in the three-day window after Election Day, and said he was referring the matter to the full court for further action.

No further action has come. Nor has the court acted on a separate request from the Trump campaign, pending for a week, to intervene in the case.

There is no deadline for the court to answer those questions, so the justices appear to be taking their time during the president’s battle to dispute his election defeat — and maybe even allowing the clock to run out.

“I’m sure they do not relish the thought of Bush v. Gore II in any way, shape or form,” said Michael C. Dorf, a Cornell law professor who anchors a popular legal blog. He was referring to the court’s 5-to-4 decision in 2000 that essentially ended a stalemate over Florida’s presidential vote and cleared the way for George W. Bush to assume office.

@coldjoint,
Even worse: a voting machine system "deleted 2.7 million Trump votes nationwide."
