@McGentrix,
Sure, lots of people in Europe. I'm fairly convinced that you don't care very much about how the President of the United States is being perceived abroad. But to many people in Europe, a U.S. President who comes out to hold a ranting and raving press conference where he insults reporters, doubles down to spout easily verifiable falsehoods, makes bizarre statements about a nuclear Holocaust, shooting Russian ships out of the water, calling the travel ban "smooth", calling the leaks "real" but the news about them "fake", etc. etc. seems deeply disconcerting.

But I'm mainly talking about the perception in America. I'm sure die-hard supporters like you are giddy about this press conference, don't much care about Trump spouting demonstrable lies, and are incredibly happy that he gave the evil, liberal mainstream media the dressing down they deserve.

But there's a good part of the population who just sees this performance as increasingly unhinged. Incoherent. Out of touch with reality. Nuts.

@old europe,
Liberals always say weird nonsense. Half a year ago these same people were babbling about how people who oppose Obama are all racists.

I recommend just tuning out all the liberal babbling.

Yes, he does so to keep his admirers in the know. This is his personal blog now and he only wants to read the positive comments.

Thus it follows logically that I have neither you nor Finn on ignore.

The key is whether someone puts you in a position where you have to think for yourself instead of simply pointing at pundits and yelling "Look everyone! I think what they think!"

It's when you need to avoid having to think for yourself that you get really nasty.

@blatham,
Yeah. It's just that, I thought, by taking on three rather disparate arguments by Lake and Podhoretz - one of which is similar to the above but the other two aren't - and connecting (or even conflating?) them, I thought he ended up confusing rather than clarifying matters. Still an informative piece though.

@oralloy,
Yeah, those darn liberals over at Fox News:

Quote:
It’s crazy what we’re watching every day. It’s absolutely crazy. He keeps repeating ridiculous throwaway lines that are not true at all and sort of avoiding this issue of Russia as if we’re some kind of fools for asking the question. Really? Your opposition was hacked, and the Russians were responsible for it, and your people were on the phone with Russia on the same day it was happening, and we’re fools for asking the questions?

No, sir. We’re not fools for asking these questions. And we demand to know the answer to this question. You owe this to the American people. Your supporters will support you either way. If your people were on the phone with her, what were they saying? We have a right to know. We absolutely do.

And that you call us “fake news” and put us down like children for asking these questions on behalf of the American people is inconsequential. The people deserve that answer at very least.

Well we are on our way to North Korea style government just like Kim 3, Russian, like Stalin, and German, like Hitler. Yet another "senior Republican adviser" said there is something “deeply wrong” about President Donald Trump after watching his first solo press conference in office. Gabriel Schoenfeld:

@RABEL222,
Sounds like a repeat of EO 9066 when president Roosevelt authorized the imprisonment of us Japanese Americans without being charged with any crime during WWII. Trump not only fails to understand our Constitution, but is ignorant about American history.

Quote:

Executive Order 9066 was a United States presidential executive order signed and issued during World War II by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 19, 1942. This order authorized the Secretary of War to prescribe certain areas as military zones, clearing the way for the internment of Japanese Americans, German Americans and Italian-Americans to concentration camps in the United States.

@RABEL222,
Unfortunately for Trump, "I am the greatest" has revealed that his team is in chaos. Trump is so smart, he doesn't listen to the experts, and relies on his own "feelings."

I don't see how "think for yourself" really plays out in a message board format. I appreciate links to well-written articles of any political perspective. I don't care who brings them to my attention or why. People on A2K aren't running for office; no one gets a prize for being the cleverest, nobody gets penalized for self-promotion, there's no umpire. Things are discussed here, not settled here. Nobody cares, everybody wins.

Is there some point here?

Do you know how many crimes have been committed by the Mafia without having been prosecuted, due to the neglect, incompetence, and corruption of law enforcement officials?

Enough to embolden those hoodlums to jauntily strut down the street, confidently committing crimes all over town. These journalists who think they have a license to commit felonies are gunna learn otherwise under Trump.

They fucked with the wrong guy, this time.

Four more journalists have been charged with felonies after being arrested while covering the unrest around Donald Trump’s inauguration, meaning that at least six media workers are facing up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine if convicted.

“Based on the facts and circumstances, we determined that probable cause existed to support the filing of felony rioting charges,” William Miller, a spokesman for the office, said in a statement. “As in all of our cases, we are always willing to consider additional information that people bring forward.”

But, but, I work for a newspaper--we have a RIGHT to commit crimes, see?

Fraid not, cheese-eater.

This is just the beginning. But, if you're a journalist trying to duck criminal responsibility, I would suggest you NOT go to Yemen, Afghanistan, and the like.

True, they have a long-standing policy of protecting criminals, but they can't stand journalists either. You'll end up on a Youtube video with some wack-ass muslim sawing your head off with a rusty-ass pocket knife, ya know?

Check out this arrogant-ass journalist again, eh? He busts in, lecturing Trump about what he can and can't do, claiming. "I have have a right, I am a reporter." Don't touch me. You can't touch me!"

Heh, yeah, right, eh?

These reporters who want to get up and give a 10 minute political speech on national TV are not "reporters, just asking questions." They're radical activists seeking a platform to spew their garbage from. They're there to polemicize, ridicule, denounce, argue, and grandstand. But don't ever try to tell some cheese-eating commie that, eh?

White House Considering Mobilizing National Guard To Round Up Unauthorized Immigrants: Report
Huffington Post - ‎1 hour ago‎

President Donald Trump's administration is considering mobilizing as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up unauthorized immigrants, according to a draft copy of an order obtained by The Associated Press.

Good grief............

1. There would be nothing wrong with using the National Guard to remove people in the country illegally, provided they (the Guard) follow the law.
2. It doesn't happen to be true.

I hear that some 17 states are now passing laws protecting motorists who "accidentally" plow into a mob of protesters blocking a street or highway from any and all civil and criminal liability.

The cheese-eaters will claim the protesters have a "right" to block highways.

Fraid not, pancake.

Motorist: "Well, officer, ya see, I was trying to hit the brakes, but I was so startled that I mashed the accelerator clean through the floorboard and somehow flattened about 130 protestors."

Cop: "OK, boy, best get on home now and clean all that blood off of your car. It's kinda an eyesore, and it might damage your paint job, ya know?"
