A text signed by Donald Trump, Jr. allegedly states: “We must protect the election! “My father is asking YOU to support our critical election defense fund.”

On the donations page, which was first highlighted by the Journal, there is a disclaimer stating that 50 percent of all donations will be used to pay off the general campaign debt and 50 percent will be used for the campaign recount account.

Another fundraising campaign for legal aid, the Journal says, leads to a donation page for the Make America Great Again committee, with the fine print noting that 60 percent of these donations will go to end campaign debt and 40 percent to the RNC.

Eighty percent of Black men supported Joe Biden, down slightly from Hilary Clinton’s 82 percent in 2016 but significantly down from Barack Obama’s level of support among Black men in 2012 and 2008.

Over half of Black men (52 percent) who identified as ideologically conservative cast their vote for President Trump, and 1 in 3 Black men living in the Midwest also voted for him.

There was an unusual relationship between education and how Black men voted this year. About 26 percent of Black men who had a high school diploma or less supported Trump. But 22 percent of Black men with bachelor’s degrees and 20 percent of Black men with advanced degrees also supported him. Black men with some college education broke for Biden at levels comparable to those of Black women.

The shifts follow a busy campaign push by both candidates to capture Black voters’ support. Biden campaigned in Philadelphia over the weekend and attended “souls to the polls” events among Black faith communities. His running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, who would be the first Black and first female vice president if elected, urged Black voters in Atlanta and the surrounding suburbs to “honor the ancestors” by heading to the polls and voting for the Democrats. In any case, a path to victory for the Democrats has routinely required strong showings in cities with heavy Black populations, like Atlanta, Detroit and Philadelphia.

Trump has stumped for Black support this election season, gaining endorsements from rappers like Lil Wayne and partnering with entertainer Ice Cube to create an investment plan for Black America dubbed the Platinum Plan.

Amid the sensory swirl of the airplane hangar in Freeland, Michigan—the thousands of voices screaming, the red MAGA hats bobbing and shifting, the fifty-foot flags on cranes flapping and snapping, the long sleek blue-and-white bulk of Air Force One gleaming, the elbow-to-elbow crowd heaving and swelling (and, in my worried fancy, the predatory virus molecules dancing ominously amid the sea of tiny Trumps filling countless tiny cell phone screens)—the leader slow-walks toward us, fist pumping slowly, with that trademark ponderous tread of his (dating back at least to his boardroom entrances in The Apprentice), adjusts the mike, leans slightly sideways, and lances into it all with a stark declaration: “We brought you a lot of car plants, Michigan! We brought you a lot of car plants. You know that, right?”


Comes in prompt response the ear-splitting roar of affirmation, clear as clear can be: Yes, Mr. President, we know that! A joyful knowledge, a knowledge to celebrate: all those jobs in all those car plants! But what exactly is it possible to know about those car plants? I could not have been the only one in that obstreperous crowd, made up overwhelmingly of Michiganders, to know the presumably important fact that, well…those car plants didn’t exist. Any member in good standing of the ancient “reality-based community” could have told you that since the coming of Trump no new car plants had been built in Michigan, that since his ascension not less than three thousand Michiganders had lost jobs in the vital auto sector.
