I push back a little on two points though.

One, the notion that no one voluntarily joins a cult - that they are all recruited and indoctrinated. I think some people with a certain weakness of character are primed and eager to follow anyone who makes them feel empowered. They embrace the cult and worship the cult leader willingly - voluntarily. No one has to convince them.

And two, that our only viable course of action with these people is to love them “in a way that their cult leader simply isn’t capable of”. I suppose the goal there would be winning them back into sane society.
I don’t think so. I don’t think they need to be reasoned with, bargained with, negotiated with, and I certainly don’t think we need to concern ourselves with figuring out how to love them.

I think they need to be beaten. Beaten from the halls of power, beaten off of the front page and headlines and from the center of social media’s attention. I think our only healthy, sensible reaction to being infested with a cult is to exterminate it. With Trump and his enablers and supporters, that means voting in numbers that get them the hell out of our way.
