Denton, Tarrant counties vote to remove Confederate monuments

Confederate monuments will be removed from courthouses in Denton and Tarrant counties after commissioners in both places voted Tuesday to take them down.

In Tarrant County, the vote came after a two hour discussion where people spoke both in favor of keeping and removing the marker, which has been in front of the county courthouse since 1953, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. It eventually passed 4-0 with one abstention.

“I would argue that it’s not a memorial at all, rather that it was erected in 1953 as a reminder to the black citizens of this county and of this state that the rules of Jim Crow were still in effect,” Commissioner Roy Brooks said, according to the Star-Telegram. “It was a reminder of who held the power and who did not … I would argue that it has a chilling effect on justice.”

A member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, which paid for the 67-year-old statue, spoke at the meeting in favor of keeping it in its place.

Yeah, joint, ignorance is bliss. If you don't find out bout police misconduct you can continue tok pretend it doesn't exist. That's why millions of people are out in the streets, becuase people like you have spent their lives pretending problems don't exist. And the cities aren't burning. Demonstrations in 700 cities and towns not burning.

You underestimate the power of the culture industry to turn the public against police as a political-economic tactic.

Already large numbers of people have been against cannabis laws for years, so in their view all the law enforcement that is done against cannabis distribution in areas where it is illegal are just an excuse to harass people who cooperate with that industry because they need money.

The reality is that cannabis, like alcohol, causes social problems and both should be illegal, yet the 18th amendment against alcohol was overturned due to the same kind of mass bias as today.

So alcoholism during prohibition caused criminal networks to turn people against the police, and the same has happened in recent decades due to cannabis-positive culture and the corresponding resentment toward the enforcement of anti-cannabis laws.

The same would happen if the 21st amendment was repealed and alcohol became prohibited again.

The question is why anyone would expect people who are against these drugs and the criminal cultures they engender to just surrender and allow the stuff to be distributed and for kids to be recruited to carry the stuff around, thus corrupting them, turning their hearts against police, making them think school is for suckers, etc. It is a bad culture and it is sad that the people who are pro-crime/pro-drugs are so militant as to do what they are doing to undermine police work in such a widespread way.

CBS Deceptively Edits Barr Interview, Leaving Out Key Details On Violent Riots, Police Oversight

The real truth is not for the American people, or at least CBS thinks so.

Quote:
Key details on violent riots near the White House were removed from the broadcast of an interview of Attorney General William Barr on CBS News’ “Face The Nation” Sunday. Anchor Margaret Brennan repeatedly described protests as “peaceful” and the clearing of protesters to set up a stronger perimeter as unnecessarily rushed, contentions Barr strongly denied.
Left out of the interview that aired on CBS on Sunday morning was Barr’s detailed accounting of much of the violent context of that perimeter expansion, including that “bricks and inflammable liquid” were being thrown at police in Lafayette Square near the White House as rioters “were trying to get entry” over the fences, the five dozen officers guarding Lafayette Square who were “lost” the night prior in the violence, and the individuals who at the time of their forced dispersal “wrestled with the police officers trying to tear their shields from them, in one case, struggling to get one of the police officer’s guns.”

You cannot trust network news. Period.

Speaking of Barr ....

A federal judge who accused Barr of 'distorting' the Mueller report has read an unredacted version --
— and now he’s demanding some answers

The Mueller report hasn’t been in the headlines much in 2020, a year that has found reporters heavily focused on the Ukraine scandal, President Donald Trump’s acquittal on two articles of impeachment, the coronavirus pandemic, former Vice President Joe Biden’s surge in the Democratic presidential primary and — most recently — the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25. But the Mueller report is still a compelling read, and a federal judge is demanding some answers after confirming, on June 8, that he has read an unredacted version of the lengthy document.

U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton, according to Law & Crime’s Matt Naham, has ordered the U.S. Department of Justice to answer questions “regarding certain redactions of the Mueller Report” at a hearing now set for July 20. In the past, Walton has been critical of Attorney General William Barr’s response to the Mueller Report, asserting that Barr, in 2019, “distorted” the findings of former special counsel Robert Mueller. And now that Walton has read the Mueller Report in unredacted form, he is more concerned than ever about Barr’s response to it.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Walton — like so many other Americans — has been working remotely. But the judge, Naham notes, has “made clear that he has some questions that the DOJ cannot answer remotely.”

https://www.alternet.org/2020/06/a-federal-judge-who-accused-barr-of-distorting-the-mueller-report-has-read-the-unredacted-version-and-now-hes-demanding-some-answers/

-snip-

Walton asserted, “Having reviewed the unredacted version of the Mueller Report, the court cannot assess the merits of certain redactions without further representations from the Department (of Justice). However, because the court must discuss the substance of the redactions with the Department, and because such a discussion cannot occur remotely due to the lack of a secure connection between the Court and the Department…. the status conference currently scheduled for June 18, 2020, is VACATED.”

With Walton having “vacated” the June 18 conference, he has ordered the DOJ to appear at the July 20 hearing in order to “address the court’s questions regarding certain redactions of the Mueller Report.”

I do, however, object to the media’s one-sided adoration of a man who spent his lifetime spewing hate. ]Their love affair with the bigoted Sharpton and their cover-up of his continued hatred has enabled him to go from a local purveyor of hatred to a TV host, supposed national “civil rights” leader, and a natural choice for the Floyd family.

I am reluctant to call him a Reverend. He is the only with that title that I know of who doesn’t believe in all ten of the Ten Commandments. Specifically, he ignores the one about, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor,” which he has broken often.

Me too.

None of that is true. No one can name one fascist policy. I have asked many times. As far as immoral. Please. Abortion is immoral. Lying to children about this country is immoral.

Spreading proven lies like truth is immoral. You got nothing but hate and guilt and the most stupid ideas ever heard of. Unless you are a Communist and are trying to destroy this country it is time to push back.

Sounds about right. This is about the grand pandering.

Lastly, the very pose they struck is tone deaf. It was Chauvin who did the kneeling, why are people emulating him? How did Colin Kaepernick’s disrespectful stunt of kneeling for the national anthem–a very specific body language phrase–become conflated with Chauvin’s lethal kneeling? If protesters want to honor Floyd, they should be on their stomachs with their hands behind their backs. If you’re going to virtue signal, do it right, you geezers.

San Diego City Council votes 8-1 to increase police funding

Quote:
After 12 hours of speakers and debate, the City Council declined to reduce police funding. The council agreed to create a new city Office on Race and Equity, and it increased rent relief funding by nearly $5 million to $15.1 million.

The demands from the community came during a public hearing on the new city budget, which the council adopted in a 8-1 vote with Councilman Chris Ward voting “no.” …

The vast majority of the more than 400 callers into the council meeting — and the more than 4,000 people who sent emails — demanded the city reduce funding for police, echoing calls across the nation for cities to shift priorities in the wake of protests over police misconduct.

Look at that they ignored their constituents just like the Democrats.

Slowly we the people are beginning to find out just how lawless the Trump government is and has been. After the election many of them are going to jail including I hope a couple of supreme court justices who are accepting presents from rich Americans.

@revelette1,
Sorry, I don't recall ever talking to you here. Actually, I have never talked about the history of the Middle East or anything concerning Palestine here . I bought a book about the history of Jerusalem, which's written by a British writer named Simon Sebag Montefiore. But I haven't gotten around to reading it; it has more than 600 pages.

I don't want to disguise the fact that I'm supportive of Israel even I'm not Jewish. It's hard to explain it. Well, I also feel sorry for most hard-up civilians living in Palestine and their struggles against repression and poverty; they also have to face the rivalry between PLO and Hamas, not to mention Hamas's acts of cruelty.

I don't think you can bring peace to Jerusalem by resorting to terrorism if nations want to settle territorial disputes. And it would be churlish for terrorists to use kids as human shields to attack another nation's civilians.

To be fair, Netanyahu is not innocent as a hard-liner who feels compelled to get tough on Palestine and use it to please other nationalists: Netanyahu also faces corruption charges.

Anyway, we really need peace on earth if we want to have a bright future for next generations. We really don't need more despotic figures like Hilter or bumblers like Trump to lead us. We need compassionate leaders who realize that we belong to the same family called earth.
