@oralloy,
first our gestapo kills a few people and a president provides condonation for the preemptive murder of citizens of color. Are you snorting something that's a controlled substance".

Dont worry, the tidal bore against this asshole ppresident is gaining elevation and I see the only way out for him is to nullify the entire electoral process. I see Pa and Mich and Wisconsin rejoining the anti fascist movement.

They liked it until they saw police arrogance and violence. And the thought of federal troops in DC gave 'em a jolt. Trump over played his hand and his long and continued silence on the state of race in the US says everything. His almost only and most loyal supporters have him trapped. He'll lose them if he extends a hand and there's almost nothing in the world he can do to get the votes he's already lost back let alone new ones.

Congressional Democrats unveil sweeping police reform bill that would ban chokeholds, no-knock...

Source: NBC

The measure would ban chokeholds like the kind that led to the death of George Floyd and no-knock warrants, as was used before Breonna Taylor's fatal shooting.

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and members of the Congressional Black Caucus on Monday unveiled far-reaching legislation to overhaul policing in the U.S.

The bill, dubbed the “Justice in Policing Act,” would ban chokeholds, including the kind used by a police officer in the Minneapolis death of George Floyd last month, as well as no-knock warrants in drug cases, as was used in the incident leading to the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky, in March, according to a bill summary obtained by NBC News and a House Democratic aide.

The legislation would also require local police departments to send data on the use of force to the federal government and create a grant program that would allow state attorneys general to create an independent process to investigate misconduct or excessive use of force, according to the five-page summary of the bill. Further, the bill would make it easier for people to recover damages when police departments violate their civil rights.

"The martyrdom of George Floyd gave the American experience a moment of national anguish as we grieve for the black Americans killed by police brutality today," Pelosi said. "This moment of national anguish is being transformed into a movement of national action as Americans from across the country peacefully protest to demand an end to injustice. Today, with the justice and policing at the Congress is standing with those fighting for justice and taking action."

If the bill is as described in your post, I strongly support it and hope it passes.

@bobsal u1553115,
I'm not sure I understand.

I'm ambivalent about choke holds -- not much for or against them -- but I can understand why people want to end them.

I've been very strongly against no knock warrants and have wanted them abolished for a long time.

Making it easier for people to recover damages if their rights are violated sounds good to me. I'm not really sure how hard it is to recover damages currently, but easier sounds better.

The House had no choice on the bill. They pander to Blacks by pumping money into failed cities. This was finally a bill that really helped Black people. Like I said they had no choice.

Not surprising. She's a mediocre singer in an extremely dated style. Never could understand what my mom saw in her.

Yankees ban Kate Smith's 'God Bless America' over 'history of potential racism'

By Victor Morton - The Washington Times - Thursday, April 18, 2019

The New York Yankees‘ anti-racism efforts have extended to pulling from their seventh-inning stretch a famous recording of the legendary Kate Smith singing “God Bless America.”

Not because anyone has complained that the song is racist, but because Smith recorded other racially insensitive standards from and during the Jim Crow era.

The Yankees pulled Smith’s “God Bless America” from the rotation at the start of the season, but the New York Daily News reported the reason Thursday — “the Yankees were made aware of Smith’s history of potential racism.”

According to the Daily News, the “potential racism” of which the Yankees were made aware included that she recorded “Pickaninny Heaven,” a jingle about black children where, among other things, they fantasize about “great big watermelons.” She recorded a film clip to promote the song at a black orphanage and, the Daily News reported, “much of the imagery is startlingly racist.”

She also endorsed a “mammy doll” in 1939, which the Daily News said resembles the Aunt Jemima caricature.

Her other recordings included “That’s Why Darkies Were Born,” where the performer sings “someone had to pick the cotton. … That’s why darkies were born.”

That song also was recorded by black activist Paul Robeson and was at the time considered a satirical put-down of racist ideas, albeit using language that would never pass muster now, the Daily News reported.

But the Yankees decided that their post-9/11 tradition of playing “God Bless America” in Smith’s recording had to go anyway.

“The Yankees have been made aware of a recording that had been previously unknown to us and decided to immediately and carefully review this new information,” a club spokesman said. “The Yankees take social, racial and cultural insensitivities very seriously. And while no final conclusions have been made, we are erring on the side of sensitivity.”

The NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers have a decades-old tradition of playing Smith’s rendition of “God Bless America” on special occasions. Smith even performed it live in-person in 1974, before the decisive Game 6 that clinched the team’s first Stanley Cup and a statue of her stands outside the Flyers’ arena.

Smith called for racial tolerance in 1945 in an address on CBS Radio, saying, "Race hatreds, social prejudices, religious bigotry, they are the diseases that eat away the fibers of peace." She went on to say that it is up to us to tolerate one another in order to achieve peace.

Do you really think you do her any honor by trying to use her classic performance against people?

Shame on you on two levels.

@bobsal u1553115,
The Red Sox do "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretch live with local talent and nobody's bitched about it, just another coldjoint tempest in a teacup. Try that, yankees, but we all know Yankees suck.

It is the song, not her that counts. Rosemary Clooney and many other patriots have preformed it.

The post saying it is racist is the same garbage you hear about everything. That is because racism is your only argument. And much of it, if not all, is bullshit from whining emasculated highly educated haters.

Nunes: More criminal referrals on Obamagate to be given to DOJ

This not going away. Covid 19 and the riots will pass and this scandal will take center stage.
Quote:
Another round of criminal referrals stemming from the Obama administration's Russia-collusion investigation will be delivered to the Department of Justice as soon as this week, according to U.S. Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif.

The Washington Examiner reports Nunes said enough evidence has been assembled for at least another five and possibly as many as 10 requests for prosecution.

A list of eight criminal referrals was sent to the DOJ last year.
