@oralloy,
so while Atlantic cod population restoration had shown hopes for a a potential future by closing the Kelvin Seamount chain to draglining. . Instead, Trump, in an amazingly transparent political and cynical act,, opens half ofthe protected areas to draglining and
thusassuring the extinction of recovering cod and pollock in this entire part of the planet. Remember, 20 years ago, everyone agreed that , since the cod and pollock population CRASHED, we would attempt to bring them back and establish a sustainable market supply .

He is a moron who will hurt the kids of both conservatives and liberals. Trump is valueless. Watch him open the Northern waters to dragline lobster fishing and taking a mature sustainable resources and turning it into a boom and bust extinction assured fishing economy.

Im not surprised if he reopens Humpback and Right Whaling expressly for the lamp oil industry. Seems you can only think about one thing at a time eh?

@farmerman,
Trump, in a statement that followed his reopening the seamount territories, called himself "an environmentalist". Thats true is he defines environmentalist as someone who favors mindless pillaging of environmental RESOURCES by clearly disastrous harvsting just like whaling od the late 19th century or hunting passenger pigeons to extinction and bison to near extinction before we wised up.

Trump gets into his wayback machine to see what damages he can muster by openly restoring industrially ignorant environmental regs. He will assure that closely guarded species , like cod, pollock, halibut, tuna , striped bass, species with tremendous market futures if managed properly, will , instead b possibly GONE.

Our president likes to further kill off a larger percentage of breeding stock of these target fish species (moving them from decimation to extinction since TRUMPS new regs apparently do NOT include any research into determining whats a sustainable population ).
What he is clueless about is that managed recovery by closure of breeding areas is a good BUSINESS decision . Opening to "Gold rush fishing" will have disastrous effects as witnessed based upon what happened to cod stocks in the recent past.

CLUELESS DON, or is he? I wonder if hes dabbled into investing in market fisheries for the Trump family.

2 men from Ohio busted with cache of weapons during NYC protests
Source: WABC

WABC 3 hrs ago

Authorities are praising the protesters -- whose tip helped police catch two men from Ohio, who were looking to incite violence in New York City.

It was protesters marching in the streets who called police.

The driver of a car with Ohio license plates was spotted with a machete just blocks from a demonstration.

"They said, 'this is not right, something's wrong with this picture'," 84th Precinct Executive Officer Capt. Melody Robinson said.

@oralloy,
You spout phrases without even doing any careful looking into what Trump stands for to the entire nation. "Conservative and Progressive" are hollow meaningless designations when we have a "leader" whose only past history leads me to believe that hes harvesting for his own personal acquisitive history.
Try to think about what his actions signify, not about what "Code words" you can muster and use in creating your vacuous bumper stickers

@Builder,
he has done an amazingly good job of polarizing this country with **** like his above cynical acts. He has apparently not conferred with anyone who knows what they are talking about when it comes to sustainable fisheries, He takes his own counsel and moves ahead with, more often than not, INCREDIBLY stupid acts that have potentially long term effects.
Its like you guys and how you managed to import cane toads into your country, thus planting ntural IEDs to future species extinction.
You had many oppotunities to better understand the problem but did nothing.
Welcome to the stupid club. You guys have a considerably parallel history to our own clueless environmental policies, and hows that nonextistant climate change working for you?

Our View: To President Trump: You should resign now
He lacks the character, maturity and judgment to lead the country in a perilous time.

President Trump: We’re sorry that you decided to come to Maine, but since you are here, could you do us a favor? Resign.

You have never been a good president, but today your shortcomings are unleashing historic levels of suffering on the American people.

Your slow response to the coronavirus pandemic has spun a manageable crisis into the worst public health emergency since 1918.

We are also in the middle of the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression. There is no national strategy to recover from the shock that is disproportionately affecting people who were already struggling to make it.

And in the face of the worst civic unrest since 1968, with millions of Americans in the streets protesting systemic racism, you fan the flames.

@MontereyJack,
That's because oralloy/yellow cake simply doesn't have any logical counter argument, and they know it. The ironic thing there is that they are always reminding us how "smart" they think they are, but unfortunately for them, their posts tell a very different story, then they have to resort to diversion tactics instead - so much for their so-called "high IQ".

At least coldjoint/pinky doesn't pretend to have a clue what their on about - they just more or less copy and paste crackpot theories from articles written by crackpots. And unlike oralloy/yellow cake, they can even admit it when they clearly haven't understood what they've read to begin with... well at least what other posters here have said anyway...

It's classic diversion tactics; can't find any logical argument, turn the focus to the other person's "posting style" - even though I also provided reason and context as to why I said what I said - it's right out of trump's playbook. As their idol trump would say... Sad!

@Region Philbis,
“By taking this action, I hope that I will have hastened the start of that process of healing which is so desperately needed in America.”

A quote Trump should be chewing over instead of chain tweeting.

His actions signify that America will continue to remain free and our civil liberties will not be violated.
Actually it doesnt. If youd think it out a bit more deeply , youd see that this fisheries order is just a small token payback to the other members of the oligarchy. Maybe you like to have a Russian politics with capitalism style government and then call it "Freedom" , I know your children are going to have a rude awakening when they discover they have neither freedom nor resources , all becaus of a clown prince who sees himself as the beginning shot of a growth AUTHORITARIAN system n the USA.
Thatll be the sad day of recollection that conservatives are in the drivers seat of. (and apparently theyre getting tacit approvals by the DEMS also).

Id rather we have a cleannsing civil discord so we can restore real Democracy cause now we are now a Kakestocracy approaching an Oligarchic Fascist state,
And you are worried about "progressives" .

You know what Bugs Bunny would call you?

@farmerman,
As far as I get it, the Antiquities Act gives the president power to protect special areas for future generations, not the opposite power to abolish those protections.

See: Massachusetts Lobstermen’s Association v. Ross

@Walter Hinteler,
All depends what your definition of "protect" is and who's doing the "protecting". Consider it a change in management style.

"He who governs least, governs best." The less there is to govern, the less governing it requires. To know Republicans is to loathe them.

Ironically the EPA and Bureau of Land Management that first started to protect public lands were started under Republican Presidents and were their own initiatives.

@bobsal u1553115,
BOY, that is the understated point of thi whole thing. When Niixon's EPA was begun under Ruckelshaus , we had ideas that helped stop the Cayuhoga River from catching fire, we recognized that The 1/3 of Pennsylvania's 84000 miles of streams were DEAD from acid waters, or that we recognized that our national symbol was almost extinct in the lower 48. So many more things to work on that are even now unworked on.

Yeh, Nixon had several good things he did, but he will never get the credit in history.
