Look, all I am saying is don't be stupid and choose a party based on the desire to dissociate yourself from the identities that have been associated with your party.
If you are embarrassed to be associated with LGTBQ pride parades, but you otherwise really like the Democratic candidate, vote for him or her.
Likewise, don't assume that all the 'deplorables' that sport offensive body art and jewelry or whatever are not planted as a deterrent to you giving fair consideration to the ideas of the Republican party/candidate.
If people can get paid to stand in nice clothing with signs supporting a candidate, they can also be paid to stand in spiked black leather outfits with offensive tattoos and jewelry and hold a sign supporting the candidate they want you to vote against.
It's not rocket science.
