While the governor cautioned that the results were preliminary and varied county by county, he still managed to throw the perception of the virus as a mortal threat for New Yorkers into question. The new numbers indicate that this revised infection rate, compared to 15,740 deaths linked to coronavirus statewide, points to a fatality rate of only about 0.5 – much lower than previously believed.

New York is the epicenter of the coronavirus epidemic in the US, and New York City has been hardest hit given its high population density. However, even in the city, where 21.2 percent tested positive for Covid-19 antibodies (1.77 million people) during this trial, a casualty count of 15,000 deaths points to a fatality rate of 0.8 percent.

S.D. Gov. Noem says state defeated COVID-19 without lockdowns

The governor added that she did not impose virus-related lockdowns because they violate the U.S. Constitution.

South Dakota has 1,956 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the state's health department. An additional 12,109 tests have come back negative for the virus. At least 1,064 patients have recovered from the virus, and 100 have been hospitalized. The state has so far seen nine deaths from COVID-19.

More than 80% of the state's COVID-19 cases have been tied to a local outbreak at the Smithfield pork processing plant in Sioux Falls, the most populous city in South Dakota. Minnehaha County, where the city is located, has reported 1,636 positive tests and three deaths, according to the state's health department.

‘The data is in — stop the panic and end the total isolation’

Five key facts are being ignored by those calling for continuing the near-total lockdown.

Fact 1: The overwhelming majority of people do not have any significant risk of dying from COVID-19.
Fact 2: Protecting older, at-risk people eliminates hospital overcrowding.
Fact 3: Vital population immunity is prevented by total isolation policies, prolonging the problem.
Fact 4: People are dying because other medical care is not getting done due to hypothetical projections.
Fact 5: We have a clearly defined population at risk who can be protected with targeted measures.
