@blatham,
Your opinion presupposes these congresspersons make their ‘I’ve decided to impeach’ statements out of a noble desire to educate and or edify their constituency. Mine presupposes only that they act now as always out of a dyed-in-the-wool instinct politicians have for self-aggrandizement and self-congratulation.

For you to be closer to correct than I am, it would also mean that their constituencies are made up of people so dull-witted and uninformed that they need something so clear as the need to get rid of the orange POS explained to them in short sentences.

Sad to say, this last thing makes me more, rather than less likely to agree with you. The American voter seems to be pretty ******* stupid.

My opinion is that people in politics are not all the same in motivation or in character. Barack Obama and Matt Gaetz or Newt Gingrich are not equivalent.

Well, speakers and writers are almost always better off communicating with simplicity and clarity. And it is obviously true that few citizens take the interest in politics as seriously as you or I. So explanation is necessary. Finally, they are talking to audiences who are arrayed across a scale of partisan allegiances - strong to non-aligned.

Someone explain to me what is so significant about Democratic congresspeople making dramatic announcements about voting to impeach?

I believe (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) that all these announcements are being made by freshmen who defeated GOP congressmen in districts that supported Trump. The media has been paying a lot of attention to these representatives because many of them know that this decision could affect their chances of re-election. Pelosi knows some of them might not vote to impeach — or even bolt the party like van Drew did — so their announcements are somewhat more newsworthy than they'd be coming from reps with safe seats. I expect my congressman will be among those making an announcement.

Ok, but it would be a hell of a lot more impressive to me (leave alone newsworthy) if any sitting republicans could find the spine to risk their precious positions and do what’s right.

@snood,
Now that would be newsworthy. I'd be really surprised if it happened, however. All the Republican officeholders who expressed reservations about Trump's conduct with regard to Ukraine and his obsession with the Bidens have gone strangely silent.

Same here, I am hoping more Democrats will do the right thing and admit Trump cannot be beaten in an election and this is a sham. One has, I hope more plan to follow.

Does that somehow change the fact that Biden is corrupt and served in a corrupt administration? Durham will prove just how corrupt.

Trump leading all 2020 Democratic candidates: Poll

This is a direct result of the impeachment circus and the piss poor Democratic field. I cannot see this turning around before the election.
Quote:
A new USA Today /Suffolk University poll of registered voters showed Trump beating top Democratic contender Joe Biden by three percentage points in a head-to-head matchup. The president was also up by eight points and five points, respectively, against Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Trump led South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg by double digits.

No, I do not think so. Do you actually think Trump will lose in 2020? Do you grow mushrooms?

Gates joins the other Trump inner circle members in serving (or finished serving) time in jail from criminal acts. And there'll be more (Stone, Flynn and others including, likely, Giuliani).

Earlier this year, Trump said:
Quote:
“The Democrats, which I’ve been saying all along, they don’t give a damn about crime. They don’t care about crime…. But I care about crime.”

These are key reasons I believe that Trump sincerely cares about corruption.

Gates was in Manafort's inner circle. You are lying again. It's OK no one expects anything else from you.

Voices From The Right: episode XXXCIX
Quote:
Project Lincoln: Can patriotic Republicans save the country?

...When faced with the great danger posed by Trump, Schmidt said, “What is most consequential is the Republicans’ flirtation with authoritarianism.” Instead of any principle or policy, Republicans have made defense of Trump their sole imperative. “Truth itself is a casualty,” he observed. “And without truth there is no accountability.” In impeachment and in their ongoing defense of whatever Trump does or says, he said, "You see wholesale abdication and subordination of a whole branch of government.” (It is noteworthy that, as we spoke, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell rejected Democrats’ appeal to have new witnesses appear — a kind of “abdication worthy of Edward VIII," Schmidt joked, in reference to the British monarch who gave up the throne.)...
