I have come to think Trump's supporters, for whatever reason they support him, are complicit in any and all of his actions, words and deeds by this point.

A Fox News host hit out at National Rifle Association chief Wayne LaPierre in a Sunday segment, accusing him of being part of the D.C. swamp and of grifting the group’s gun-loving membership.

In the segment – titled “Swamp Watch” – the host introduces LaPierre as “a man who has been exploiting for his own personal enrichment one of the most deeply held beliefs of American patriots.”

The host in question is Steve Hilton, a conservative Brit who strays somewhat from the mainstream of Fox News.

The president replied that: "Somebody had to take China on."
"And it's about time, whether it's good for our country, or bad for our country short term," he continued.

"Long term, it's imperative that somebody does this because our country cannot continue to pay China $500 billion because stupid people are running it."

"I don't mind this question. Whether it's good or bad, the short term is irrelevant. We have to solve the problem with China because they're taking out $500 billion a year plus. And that doesn't include intellectual property theft and other things."

United States Steel Corporation has laid off dozens at a facility in Michigan and outlined plans to temporarily remove up to 200 workers in the coming weeks, according to a state filing.

In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice filed with the State of Michigan this month, the steel giant said the layoffs were the result of idled operations and other adjustments at the Great Lakes Works facility.

"These additional adjustments in operations at Great Lakes Works are related to ongoing challenging market conditions," said US Steel spokesperson Meghan Cox, adding that the notice included positions in nearly every area of the facility.

US President Donald Trump has cancelled a state visit to Denmark after the nation's prime minister said Greenland was not for sale to the US.

The president was scheduled to visit on 2 September, at the invitation of Denmark's Queen Margrethe II.

Then last week Mr Trump suggested the US was interested in buying Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory.

Danish PM Mette Frederiksen described the suggestion as "absurd" and said she hoped Mr Trump was not being serious.

Ms Frederiksen is due to give a statement later on Wednesday.

While praising Denmark as a "very special country", Mr Trump said in a tweet on Tuesday that his planned visit would no longer go ahead because Ms Frederiksen had "no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland".

The cancellation was confirmed by a White House spokesman.

The Danish royal house also confirmed it had been informed of the cancellation. The house's head of communications, Lene Balleby, told the BBC "it was definitely a surprise".

Just hours before Mr Trump announced the cancellation, the US ambassador to Denmark, Carla Sands, tweeted: "Denmark is ready for the POTUS @realDonaldTrump visit! Partner, ally, friend."

Saying that that over 75% of American Jews are either disloyal or unintelligent, is politicising religious beliefs which is dangerous ... as we know here in Germany from our past.

The remark was denounced by a number of Jewish American groups, which said it called on an established anti-semitic trope that accuses Jews of being more devoted to Israel than to their own countries.

"If this is about Israel, then Trump is repeating a dual loyalty claim, which is a form of anti-Semitism. If this is about Jews being 'loyal' to him, then Trump needs a reality check", Halie Soifer, executive director of the Jewish Democratic Council of America, wrote on Twitter.

Jonathan Greenblatt, the head of the Anti-Defamation League, said "charges of disloyalty have long been used to attack Jews", while the American Jewish Committee described the remark as "inappropriate, unwelcome and downright dangerous".

Independent Senator Bernie Sanders said he was "a proud Jewish person...[with] no concerns about voting Democrat."

Recent polls show that a majority of Jewish Americans identify as Democrats.

WASHINGTON — The federal budget deficit is growing faster than expected, even as President Trump openly considers more tax cuts and other ideas that would add to government debt.

The deficit will reach $960 billion for the 2019 fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30, and $1 trillion for the 2020 fiscal year, the Congressional Budget Office said in updated forecasts released on Wednesday. Previously, it had projected an $896 billion deficit for 2019 and $892 billion for 2020. Those numbers would be even higher, if not for lower-than-expected interest rates, which are reducing the cost of servicing the national debt.

Rising deficit projections are the result of sluggish growth in federal revenue after Mr. Trump’s 2017 tax cuts went into effect, and several bipartisan agreements to raise military and nondefense domestic discretionary spending, which Mr. Trump signed into law.

Typically, the budget deficit shrinks when unemployment is low. Mr. Trump’s administration has defied that trend.
