Allegations that four black 12-year-old girls were strip searched at a school should be investigated at state level, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says.

He said the allegations were "deeply disturbing" and raised "serious issues of racial and gender bias".

The girls and their parents say the school nurse and assistant principal searched them believing they had drugs.

Local education authorities question whether a strip search took place, but have hired a firm to investigate.

"Asking a child to remove her clothing - and then commenting on her body - is shaming, humiliating, traumatic sexual harassment," Mr Cuomo said in a statement.

"In New York we have zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment of any kind," he added on Twitter.

The Progressive Leaders of Tomorrow, which campaigns for deprived communities, said the girls had been searched after appearing "hyper and giddy" during their lunch hour on 15 January.

The group said the girls' parents had not been contacted until after the alleged searches and had not given consent.

Local radio station WSKR quoted one of the girls as saying that she had been asked first to pull down her trousers and then to pull down the leggings she had on underneath.

"My leggings were tight. And she was like, 'can you pull them down a little bit for me?' So I pulled them down under my knees," the girl said, speaking after a meeting this month between community members and school officials.

The mother of one of the girls said her daughter had been detained for more than an hour, the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin reported.

Earlier this month, school officials said the girls had undergone a medical evaluation, which could involve them removing bulky outer clothing to expose an arm so blood pressure and pulse could be monitored.

"This is not the same as a strip search," school officials said.

In a subsequent statement this week, East Middle School said there was "no evidence" a strip search had taken place but that it had hired investigators to make a "full and objective assessment", the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin reported.

Russian hackers stole and then misrepresented evidence connected to the continuing prosecution of Russian companies accused of leading a propaganda campaign to influence the 2016 US election, a court has heard.

Twitter user @HackingRedstone had broken into a Russian server in October, the court heard.

And they had then posted a link to an online file-sharing portal that they had said had contained special counsel Robert Mueller's documents about "the IRA and Russian collusion".

The IRA (Internet Research Agency) is one of three Russian companies accused in February 2018, alongside 13 individuals, of interfering to help Donald Trump win the election.

Both the Kremlin and President Trump deny any collusion.

The court document alleged the Twitter post had said: "We've got access to the special counsel Mueller's probe database as we hacked Russian server with info from the Russian troll case."

But, according to prosecutors in the case, the data that was linked to had been "altered and disseminated as part of a disinformation campaign aimed at discrediting ongoing investigations into Russian interference in the US political system".

The two other Russian companies that have been charged Concord Management and Consulting LLC and Concord Catering.

And Reuters reported that a journalist had received a message from a hacker claiming to have hacked a Russian legal firm that had received the evidence from Concord's US law firm, Reed Smith LLP.

Yup. It was part of the Third Way at the time. The deal benefited international corporations and domestic consumers. Succeeding administrations irresponsibly failed to address inadvertent and unforeseen consequences to US laborers. Meanwhile USAmericans enjoyed their stupid big screen TVs. I don't see any of this as evidence of creeping socialism, however.

Don't tell me what "I seem to think". Laws and regulations protect some freedoms and restrict others. "Freedom" comes in various shapes and forms and is employed and enjoyed in many different ways.

Then stop harming the people's access to the common good for the sake of profits and social control.

Look, media events like this pop up all the time now when everyone has video recording devices.

I think it's a mistake to get sucked into them.

The whole thing was ugly, a perfect representation of contemporary USAmerican society, especially with the multiple ideological interpretations.

As far as political effectiveness goes the situation hardly deserved the coverage it got. It was simply exploited for each side's purposes.
