Another point I was going to mention regarding the Catholic high school matter.

The statement whipped up by the GOP-aligned PR firm contained at least one clear falsehood - that Sandmann had only smiled momentarily (paraphrase but same meaning). But another portion of the statement seems likely to be false as well.

That claim stated that the family had contacted the firm. Reminder here... one of the three partners has (may still be) working for/with Mitch McConnell and was a key figure in the Bush admin US Attorney hiring scandal. In other words, this a very high level firm. How might it have come to pass that this family contacted this firm? They went to the yellow pages and saw a great looking ad? They called an aunt or uncle for advice?

It is of course possible that they called their lawyer (if they have one) and got referred (of course that lawyer would have to know of the PR firm). It's possible that someone else made the referral but if so, who? And why would they engage such a firm? Because their son looked like a jerk teenager? And we can presume that this firm doesn't come cheap. I think that something like the following happened:

Somebody fairly high in the GOP recognized that this incident and the dissemination of video footage was a serious PR problem - for conservatism and the modern GOP. A problem that could very easily have electoral consequences of the sort seen in Nov. A group of young right wing males (wearing new MAGA hats and shirts) behaving as we saw. It's precisely the sort of image the GOP knows it has to counter in some way. Many of the young men wore expressions that would not have been out of place in a Nazi Youth gathering.

There's my wager. The firm contacted the family then lied about it. Or some other high level GOP figure arranged for the family to speak with the firm. That the family managed this just isn't credible.

@blatham,
More videos being released. Not looking good for the lies coming from the Kentucky PR firm. They should have realized there would be more videos.

@ehBeth,
Right. My guess is they felt they had to react immediately to provide a counter-narrative knowing that right wing media would run it as soon as the statement was issued and which would serve as the typical smokescreen in mainstream media. It seems that the Republicans are working very, very hard to keep their base loyal and motivated because further degradation of their voter pool could be catastrophic. (please god, hear my humble littler prayer)

@coldjoint,
Actually I think I know what she meant. And if the left wants to use that as their latest crutch, the result will actually be pretty funny.

At least, I'll think it'll be funny. I suspect the left won't be laughing.

It doesn't take long for word to get out, another copycat idiot.

Quote:
Flights were grounded at Newark International Airport in the US state of New Jersey after two drones were spotted flying nearby.

A pilot told air traffic control that one of the drones came within 30ft (9m) of his aircraft.

He was flying at Teterboro Airport, a nearby private facility, but officials closed Newark International as a precaution.

The airport is the 11th busiest in the US, with 20m boarding there each year.

The incident follows major disruption over the Christmas period at London’s Gatwick airport, where apparent drone sightings grounded hundreds of flights over the course of three days.

Three men and a teenage boy have been arrested and charged over an alleged plot against a small Islamic community in New York state.

The suspects are accused of possessing homemade bombs and firearms, and planning to attack Islamberg, founded by a Pakistani cleric in the 1980s.

The alleged plot was revealed following a tip-off from a school student.

The Islamberg community has become a target for conspiracy theorists who say it is a terrorist training camp.

The three men are due to appear in court on Wednesday.

The Islamberg community is located west of the Catskill mountains near the city of Binghamton.

The mainly African American group settled there to escape crime and overcrowding in New York City.

Local residents describe the community as peaceful and friendly, but right-wing conspiracy-led media outlets like Infowars have suggested without basis it is a training camp for Islamist militants.

In 2017 Robert Doggart, from Tennessee, was jailed for plotting to burn down the community's mosque two years earlier.

Also in 2015, Arizona man John Ritzheimer threatened the community with an armed confrontation.

They have been named as Andrew Crysel, 18, Vincent Vetromile, 19, and 20-year-old Brian Colaneri.

All are charged with criminal possession of a weapon and conspiracy. A 16-year-old boy is also facing charges.

Police said at least three of them served together as boy scouts.

Investigators say the group, based in the city of Greece in the north-west of the state, made at least three improvised explosive devices using duct tape and large jars and cylinders containing nails and other projectiles.

They were found in the 16-year-old's home, police said. Some 23 firearms were also found at various locations.

Greece Police Chief Patrick Phelan said the investigation was launched after comments made by the 16-year-old at school on Friday were overheard by a fellow student.

There are a few girls with bits of footage of them being harassed by the boys from Kentucky. They’ll probably be released either soon or during any trial that results from this.

Seems like you can take the boys out of Kentucky, but...

@Lash,
You mean the girl who hates blacks (and uses the N-word to describe them), hates Asians, hates homosexuals (but doesn't think they are as bad as blacks and Asians), admires Hitler, and denies the Holocaust?

The left should absolutely tie themselves to her. Very Happy

Why should "the left" tie with someone, who obviously has ultra extreme-right, neo-Nazi ideas?

Winner of today's No ****, Sherlock! award
Quote:
The United States will be challenged in coming years by nations that exploit “the weakening of the post-WWII international order and dominance of Western democratic ideals” and “increasingly isolationist tendencies in the West,” according to a new intelligence document published Tuesday.

The document, known as the National Intelligence Strategy, cited Russia as seeking to flex its geopolitical muscle in order to challenge the United States “in multiple regions.”

Meant to set U.S. spy agencies’ priorities for the next four years, the language echoed the intelligence community’s unanimous conclusion, released in 2017, that Russia interfered with the 2016 presidential election in order to “undermine the US-led liberal democratic order.”

All of which is a tad more serious given Trump's allegiance with Putin's crowd.

@Walter Hinteler,
Nazis and neonazis are not on the far right.

Fascism is populism gone wrong. Nazism and neonazism are fascism gone wrong.

Populists, fascists, nazis, and neonazis all draw their weird ideas from both the right and the left.

The reason why leftists would tie themselves to this person is because leftists are self-defeating weirdo extremists.
