Two nuns who worked at a Catholic school in California have admitted embezzling about $500,000 and using it to gamble in Las Vegas.

Sisters Mary Kreuper and Lana Chang took the money from St James' Catholic School in the city of Torrance, near Los Angeles, to spend in casinos.

The pair, who are said to be best friends, took funds from an account holding tuition fees and donations.

The sisters, who recently retired, have expressed remorse for their actions.

Mary Kreuper was the school principal for 29 years, while Lana Chang worked as a teacher for about 20 years. They are thought to have stolen the money over a period of at least a decade to spend on travel and gambling.

On Monday, St James' Catholic Church said the nuns had expressed "deep remorse" over their actions, adding that while the police had been informed, no criminal charges would be brought against the pair.

If only the criminal justice system was like the Catholic church. As long as you express "deep remorse" you can get away with anything. It worked for paedophiles so it's no surprise embezzlement isn't a problem either.

Mother Mary and Joseph. What a freaking world.

Remember kids, just two meters of sea level rise, and you can write off Miami.

Remember this the kids you will never see that whether we do something or not. You do know 2 meters is over six feet. Fear mongering at its best.

Why do people want to save the world and not their country?

New study finds sea level rise accelerating]

That study was based on the melting of the Greenland glaciers. It did not factor in the break-up of Antarctic ice sheets, which is, of course, not only an anticipated event, but which is also happening more quickly than had been anticipated. That was was what I had referred to, as can be seen by those who do not suffer a reading comprehension deficiency.

They demonstrate even in bad weather, correct, protesting against new tax on petrol and diesel, high wages of employees of the big businesses and low wages of workers, the new labour code reform, his neoliberal policies, education reforms plus some dozen more minor topics.

What does that have to do with it? Do you think people are going to stand there and drown as water rises? My children are not that stupid.

@coldjoint,
Hi guy,

We can’t—and shouldn’t—pretend this isn’t happening.

Reader’s Digest lists islands you should see before they’re completely submerged. https://www.rd.com/advice/travel/islands-will-disappear-80-years/

When you don’t feel pressured to read and respond, I hope you’ll look at these critically.

@coldjoint,
It's not just the sea level rise. There'll be the extreme weather events, the fires, and then at some point it's going to be about food.

This is very interesting:

K. D. Burke, J. W. Williams, M. A. Chandler, A. M. Haywood, D. J. Lunt, and B. L. Otto-Bliesner wrote:
The expected departure of future climates from those experienced in human history challenges efforts to adapt. Possible analogs to climates from deep in Earth’s geological past have been suggested but not formally assessed. We compare climates of the coming decades with climates drawn from six geological and historical periods spanning the past 50 My. Our study suggests that climates like those of the Pliocene will prevail as soon as 2030 CE and persist under climate stabilization scenarios. Unmitigated scenarios of greenhouse gas emissions produce climates like those of the Eocene, which suggests that we are effectively rewinding the climate clock by approximately 50 My, reversing a multimillion year cooling trend in less than two centuries.

Here's more:

In 200 years, humans reversed a climate trend lasting 50 million years, study says

Another interesting article was printed in a 1911 edition of Popular Mechanics, titled "The Effect of the Combustion of Coal on the Climate — What Scientists Predict for the Future", authored by Francis Molena.

@Olivier5,
If you are so certain that cataclysm and chaos are on the horizon, what are you, personally, doing to prepare for it?

I'm not and so I'm not doing anything; thus if I end up a victim, as a result, it will, justly, be on me. However, if doom catches up with those who are predicting it, but not preparing...

As was proven in the 2010 elections, winning a bunch of seats in The House doesn't translate into a Presidential win. The GOP won more seats in 2010, 67 House seats and 6 Senate seats, than the DNC won in 2018. 40 seats in The House and the DNC lost seats in the Senate. The DNC isn't poised to do much in 2020, for all the fauz outrage, they didn't do as well as the GOP in 2010.

If Trump isn't primaried in 2020, he will win reelection. I'm hoping for a strong Libertarian candidate myself, put some scare into the 2 other parties.
