@hightor,
Quote:It's not a matter of being "tougher" against one group or the other. In my daily life I'm more apt to see negative or questionable aspects of Christianity played out before me in real world experience.
So relatively minor impositions (achieved through the democratic process) are more unsettling to you than murderous assaults because you are more like to experience them.
To the extent that Christians organize politically, they are no more or less influential than the Resistance.
When using general terms it's good to specify exceptions and irregularities and that's what I find missing from some of the anti-muslim "hateful screeds" we see posted in this thread.
In other words, it's OK for you to generalize, but nobody else.
I think it is pointless to argue about the relative virtues of any given religion; especially when one condemns all religion. The issue is the actions of each religion's adherents that are committed in the name of their religion. There was a time, centuries ago, when Islam very much helped to advance and preserve human culture, while Christians were busy slaughtering people left and right. Unfortunately, that is no more. Right now in time, a very sizeable number of adherents of Islam are on a mission to destroy Western Civilization which might lead to a destruction of human civilization. Compared to that, depriving people of free birth control or insisting on the inclusion of Creationism in school curriculum seem trivial at best, regardless of how it impacts your personal life.
Worrying only about what affects you personally may be a natural inclination but it has often led, ultimately, to war, and very big wars.
All I expect from any reasonable person is perspective. If someone continuously goes on and on about the ills of Christianity, I certainly do expect them to comment on the ills of other religions. If they don't, I'm afraid I consider them bigoted.
