@ehBeth,
This is absurd
How many people other than Ms. McGlynn are even aware that the KKK used the slogan "America First" almost 100 years ago, let alone recall that use whenever they hear it used today?
"America First" and "Preserve Racial Purity" are not obviously linked. The former doesn't logically follow the latter.
The vast majority of reasonably intelligent people who see or hear "America First" think of a position that holds that
America's interests are paramount in the world and the interests of all other nations are, at best, secondary. I'm sure there must be some Americans, and plenty of Canadians and other foreigners, who consider this an ill-advised position for the US government to take. Fine, but any argument that it is a clear translation of: "
White interests are paramount in the world and the interests of all other people are, at best, secondary," is ludicrous.
This is deceitful and intellectually dishonest tactic: Attempting to force a negative connotation on a slogan or symbol through some obscure association with a clearly negative principle or sentiment.
McGlynn is particularly dishonest when, having pronounced her association, universal and rock solid, she then asserts that Trump's use of it, must be in keeping with her inane thinking and is a deliberate endorsement of the vile principles of White Nationalism and Racism and the negative sentiment of hatred.
The same tactic might be used with the word
socialist. The Nazi's incorporated the term in the name of their movement and so Bernie Sanders, by identifying himself as a
socialist signifies he believes that war, depravity, and genocide are legitimate tools for advancing his political agenda. It would, of course, be deceitful, dishonest and absurd to tweet something like that...and it's precisely what McGlynn has done.
The concept of "America First" is devoid of racial undertones, and it wouldn't be surprising or ironic if a person of color announced they were a proponent of it.
Just another example of how low and how far the left is willing to go in their opposition to those who stand between them and power. Everything's a dog whistle.
It's cute though how she throws in that last line about America being a diverse nation...blah blah blah. A sanctimonious and vapid attempt to rhetorically defend our nation against a creature of her own making,
the threat posed by this slogan and President Trump.
You know, in the past I saw Soviet Dictators joining crowds in applauding their own speeches and now I see Trump doing it. It's a clear sign that he is a tyrant who wants to lead the US to total global domination.
