The American Bar Association and the Jesuit order that educated Kavanaugh have both called for an FBI investigation in allegations against him.

Edit: And now, also Alan Dershowitz on Fox

Any ideas on how we're ever again going to have a trusted and well-functioning Supreme Court? The process for filling vacancies is described in the Constitution so without an amendment I think we're stuck here, unless one side in the battle makes significant electoral gains and we're no longer so evenly split. The overt politicization of the process is made even worse when there's really no consensus, the party in power is blatantly trying to pack the court, and the opposition party won the popular vote in the last presidential election. The ship of state drifts helplessly toward a lee shore...the smell of rope and tar...you can hear breakers crashing over the rocks...the cries of gulls...and then the sickening CRUNCH!

@Region Philbis,
Appropriate analogy. Kavanaugh worked on the GOP legal team working to stop the Florida recount.

@hightor,
I love seascape political stories!

It is no small problem and there's obviously no guarantee nor any apparent reason to presume this will turn out well.

When President Trump replaces Ruth Bader-Nosferatu Ginsberg, I mean, to actually replace her with something more or less equivalent (prize for ugliest of the ugly amongst demokkkrat women) he's gonna be back to the realm of fairytales ("Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the UGLIEST of them all??") and, of course, there's only one answer to that:

While we previously endorsed the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh on the basis of his legal credentials and his reputation as a committed textualist, it is now clear that the nomination should be withdrawn.

Btw, note that the Mark Judge “affidavit under threat of perjury,” Kavanaugh told us about today under oath, is actually a statement signed by his lawyer with zero value in court. So Kavanaugh lied, again.

@blatham,
They all got their talking points and ways to portray themselves during Fox News covering of Ford's testimony from their commentaries. In other words, it was all fake, like reading lines from a script. No wonder it seemed over-the-top. Graham probably got his marching orders directly from Trump and the rest of the republicans fell in line. Perhaps Kavanaugh thought he had to have a few drinks to pull it off.

@revelette1,
Yes. It's not as if Graham and Grassley didn't know how Kavanaugh was being groomed by his murder boards and what the PR strategy was. It was kabuki.

But, once again, a reminder that these people really and truly do NOT believe in democratic rule. And they very clearly do not believe in being honest.

From Benen
Quote:
After Donald Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court, the American Bar Association does what it nearly always does: it offered its assessment of the jurist's professional qualifications. As expected, the ABA's panel voted unanimously to describe Kavanaugh as "well qualified" for the high court.

The finding came up a few times during yesterday's hearing. When Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), for example, asked about the importance of temperament. Kavanaugh replied, "For 12 years, everyone who has appeared before me on the D.C. Circuit has praised my judicial temperament. That's why I have the unanimous 'well qualified' rating from the American Bar Association."

That followed a similar reference from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who read from the ABA's endorsement of Kavanaugh, and who described the American Bar Association as "the gold standard."

If that's true, the ABA's latest recommendation should be difficult for Republicans to ignore.
As noted earlier, that new recommendation to postpone any vote until the FBI can complete an investigation on these women's charges.

@blatham,
Silly

You can add photos of Harris, Booker and Hirono to your gallery. The ladies in this trio just pulled stunt #123 with Blumenthal of Vietnam: Leaving the committee room and conveniently finding a battery of microphones that just happened to be there waiting for them. Harris and Hirono both tried to do their best Lindsay Graham impersonations.

The hate and violence comes from the Left. You can post all the pictures you wish it does not change that fact.
