ICE detains father preparing for his children’s baptisms in Wisconsin raids

"I don’t know why ICE would detain him. He is a hard worker, he provides for our family."

Immigrant communities across 14 counties in Wisconsin were left reeling after roughly 34 undocumented individuals were swept up in what appeared to be seemingly random raids conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Wisconsin-based immigrant advocacy group Voces de la Frontera said Monday that over the weekend, ICE arrested 11 people in the Madison area, 15 people in Arcadia, three people in Milwaukee and six in Green Bay.

The arrests were made at workplaces, during traffic stops, and even in their own homes. Some members of the Wisconsin immigrant community reported that ICE agents falsely presented themselves as police officers.

Erick Gamboa Chay and his family were getting ready for the day when ICE agents banged on the door of his Milwaukee home, claiming to be the police, and arrested Chay for previously driving without a license. ICE has denied him bond.

Chay’s three children, ages 8,4, and 1, hid in the attic and cried as their father was taken away. They are currently staying with a member of their extended family.

“Now my uncle’s kids keep asking when their dad is going to come back. His youngest son has sickle cell anemia and requires constant care,” Giselle Vera, Chay’s niece, told Voces de la Frontera. “His wife cannot work outside the home because she cares for him and the other two children. This is devastating to his kids and to our family.”

She added, “The middle son is like, ‘So when is he going to come back? When are they going to bring him back? And how do you answer that question when we don’t even know what’s going to happen?”

In Green Bay, ICE arrested six individuals, including a father of eight children and a father preparing for his children’s baptism.

While ICE did not comment on the details of who was arrested and what charges they face, the agency says those arrested “pose a threat to national security, public safety and border security.”

given how meticulous they’ve been, it would be a shock if Mueller and his team haven’t prepared for the eventuality of being shut down. Perhaps they’ve kept a running, frequently updated report outlining everything they’ve found, a report that would one way or another find its way to the public. I’m guessing that if Democrats take over the House in November as everyone expects, they’ll use their power to subpoena documents and witnesses to do everything they can to bring the information assembled by the Mueller team to light.

French President Emmanuel Macron told the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday that his country will begin to make trade agreements contingent on membership in the Paris climate pact.

“We will no longer sign commercial agreements with powers that do not respect the Paris accord,” he told the assembly.

Although Macron did not mention the United States, the remarks were seen as a shot at the country. The U.S. is the only country that is not part of the agreement after President Trump withdrew in June 2017.

Leaving the Paris deal, which Trump has called "very unfair at the highest level to the United States,” was one of his key campaign promises.

According to a report released earlier this month, the U.S. will fall about one-third short of the climate targets stipulated in the original deal.

Trump has been quick to roll back former President Barack Obama's aggressive climate efforts, including pollution rules on coal-fired power plants. Last week, the Interior Department’s Bureau of Land Management released a final rule to weaken methane pollution rules for drillers.

Despite the federal government, cities and states are working on their own to meet Paris emission reduction targets. The report found the U.S. has the potential to reach 90 percent of its targets through state and city action.

California recently passed a bill to set a target of 100 percent carbon-free electricity by 2045. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) announced $4 billion worth of investments into clear energy earlier this month.

There are currently 28 members in the EU, all of whom have the opportunity to obtain some of these “structural funds” for projects deemed worthy by the union, but with everyone also paying into the system. Macron is threatening (currently) Poland, Italy, Sweden, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Slovakia. And if those nations feel that they will be cut off from EU funding, why would they continue to pay into the system?

Why didn't these accusations surface when Kavanaugh was put on that list?
