@ehBeth,
It's a great interview. Thanks!

Re, "swearing is good for you". My lifestyle has never been the sort that doctors or priests or moral scolds would recommend and yet, I'm quite healthy. I'm not sure why. Mind you, the medical marijuana dispensary I frequent has absolutely the best ******* **** around.

@Olivier5,
That illustration of Stalin holding a baby (a baby that would have been quite pleasing to Hitler's eye) is perfectly typical of the style and content seen in propaganda posters used in totalitarian/authoritarian states. Visual simplicity, highly symbolic content, ecstatic citizenry, etc. Ambiguity or doubt are not welcome.

You made the case that the Russian Federation assumed all treaty obligations of the USSR.
Thank you. Always nice to be appreciated.

It's an academic argument because Putin isn't going to be deterred by a fellow named Blickers furiously waving the results of his research in his face.
No, but Putin is going to watch sanctions put against him by the EU and the US which will drive his country into Depression and cut the value of the Ruble by over 50%. All because of those Ukrainian territorial rights that Putin decided to disregard in 2014. Observe what happened in 2014:

So continuing the hyper-technical debate, where is the treaty that turned territorial rights to Crimea over to Ukraine?
Where is the treaty physically? No idea. What I do know is that everyone in the government of Russia, Ukraine and the USSR sure seemed to be convinced it existed somewhere, or else you would not see maps put out by Russia after 2006 showing the Ukraine, (including Crimea), in white but Russia in purple, denoting they were different countries.

Im more astounded at Trump's serial lying.
I think everyone who isn't a member of the Trump cult (he's like a Bizarro planet Maharishi) is equally astounded. Not so much that this man would behave in this manner. He is a sociopath, after all. And I'm not astounded that he has managed to corral together the stupidest people in America. What does astound me is how many of those stupid people there are.

There's a real similarity between Trump and those males who gather up weapons and proceed to (or plan to) kill many innocent people. It's a key part of the sociopath's psychology:
"I'm NOT a nobody. I'm a SOMEBODY! And I'll prove it. I'll show you all how dangerous I really am!"

Really? In 1949 would the US government have been happier with aWestern European government who wanted to join NATO or with one who didn't?

Sure the Europeans got protection, but we got access to land which hugely enhanced the West's abilities to fight Russia.

By the way, even if the Europeans do fall a bit short of the 2%, can you tell me what country they purchase most of their military equipment from?

I'd like you to stop with those photographs. I'm feeling a tingly stirring in my loins.

@blatham,
The background is that I posted this pic, which Walt identified as a parody of Stalin holding a baby:

Well, the democratic platform is starting to shape up, just in time for mid-terms, eh? Now they have a clearly articulated plan for the future:

1. Impeach Trump
2. Abolish ICE
3. Repeal the first amendment and replace it with 25,000 pages of statutes listing words that are designated to be "hate speech," the use of which will carry a mandatory death sentence.
4. Abolish all age of consent laws. Free NAMBLA!
5. Pack the Supreme court
6. Free **** of every conceivable kind for EVERYBODY making less than 100,000/year, all to be paid for by those who are.

What's not to like!? They'll all win by a one hundred million to zero margin, I betcha!

Perhaps it is presumptuous of me to act as your editor but I would point out that there is one word in your short sentence which is unnecessary.
