This one is interesting (in a study-of-propaganda sort of way)
TPM
Quote:Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, shared a Facebook post Monday claiming that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) was being falsely accused of lying about his knowledge of rampant sexual assault while coaching wrestling at Ohio State University.
“Jim Jordan is under attack, with false accusations, because he threatens the elite,” she wrote on the post with the video below.
First off, she has no knowledge or justification for her claim that Jordan is innocent. That's just dishonest. And as a lawyer, she knows that she's being dishonest but her politically extremist ideas trump her integrity.
But the bit I love is in bold. Her husband is
a supreme court justice. He and she have alliances with the Koch brothers. Both are intimately tied into the power structures of modern US conservatism. So just who on earth does she imagine constitutes some "elite" if not her and her husband (and their close political and social allies)? Sociology professors? Hollywood actresses? Late night TV hosts? Rap artists? And of course, she's being dishonest again in her claim to know that any "elite" is behind the accusations.
Does she actually believe what she says? It's impossible to know for sure but we can note that here she is pushing the same claims that Jordan himself is making, that Trump has made (and undoubtedly what Fox et al are pushing). There's no independent thought here. This is the continuing fantasy of conservative victimization and, then, the use of political and messaging strategies which do not have to be bound by normal ethical codes (like honesty) because of the imagined victimization.
