@Walter Hinteler,
Walter, you really have to ignore a few of the American nut-bags here. Some of them have watched too many Rambo bullshit movies, too many 'death wish', Bruce Willis flicks and a few of them actually think John freakin Wayne is a War Hero....

I can't afford to ignore them, they support a distorted view of freedom and democracy. However, I keep getting older and I'm worried about my children and grand children....I don't want them to live in fear and I can only hope they all acquire a conscience and a curiosity that allows them to question the bullshit that dopes like Shawn Hannity spew. You know what I mean,, folks that actually care about their community and the country, not just fixated on how they can make more money than God, by cheating widows and orphans.

Hello to all my A2K friends.
For the past 17-18 months, I've been subsisting on the sliver of hope that our systems of government and justice will find a way to check/correct the vile phenomenon that is rotting away our country from the top down. Little factoids like the margin by which he lost the popular vote, the apparent determination of the special prosecutor, the outspokenness of certain Senators and Congresspersons, and the media finally seeming to come around to reporting on the size and weight of the man's fraudulence -these things have kept me hanging on to the idea that the insanity that seemed to grip the whole country in November of 2016 might be a survivable, passing thing.

But I'm really afraid now. It seems that all he has to do to avoid any accountability for his painfully obvious corruption is keep repeating a lie loud and long enough; and deploy enough gibbering spokespersons to echo the lie. I don't see Congress (whether we achieve Democratic majority or not) as integrous enough to challenge 45. I don't see any combination of pornstar accusations or revelations about his criminal business dealings or even exposure of plainly traitorous relationships with dictators - I don't see any of these things as having the potential of stopping him any time soon.

I lost some faith in the basic goodness of a lot of people back in November 2016. I have been unsure of just what kind of people it would have to be to raise a man and administration like this to power. Eighteen months later finds me gone from anxious to really scared now what's going to happen when this sick thieving mess of a presidency is proven to be above the constraints of any law or tradition.

@snood,
It can't go on like this, there will be a change, hopefully sooner rather than later. The big hope is the young, in both of our counties, who seem to be far more decent than older generations. Hopefully the fascist geriatrics will die out soon.

I did hope that in my youth - now I think, there's a nursery for such people somewhere.

@Walter Hinteler,
Despite what coldjoint saiys - there's still the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
On Thursday this week, the US-ambassador to Germany will have the opportunity to explain in the German Foreign Office what he thinks about it.

@Walter Hinteler,
The US state department's guide Protocol for the Modern Diplomat states that "each country will be respected uniformly and without bias", and includes the instruction "that as a guest, one is expected to respect the host's culture".

Might have become outdated, too, under the present president. (coldjoint will know and verify that)

Melania to Make (Sort Of) Public Appearance for First Time in 25 Days
By Margaret Hartmann

While there are certainly bigger issues in the world right now (Samantha Bee calling Ivanka Trump a dirty word, the Drake-Pusha T beef, etc.) the disappearance of Melania Trump has captured the public’s overactive imagination. Is she recovering from a kidney procedure or a “kidney procedure”? Is she taking refuge with the Obamas? Is she just enjoying some time off because she was never that into being first lady to begin with?

Here’s what we know: The first lady has not appeared in public since May 10, when she and President Trump welcomed Americans citizens imprisoned in North Korea back to the U.S. Four days later, the White House announced that she successfully underwent an “embolization procedure” for a “benign kidney condition.” At the end of the month, as questions arose about why she still hadn’t reemerged, Melania’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, insisted that she’s been at the White House “working hard and participating in several meetings.” People remained unconvinced, especially after she sent out a tweet that sounded suspiciously like her husband wrote it:

"Melania Trump
✔ @FLOTUS
I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing. Rest assured, I'm here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!"

But on Monday members of the public will get a chance to check on the first lady themselves … if they happen to be attending an event honoring Gold Star families at the White House. On Sunday Grisham said Melania will join her husband in hosting the Gold Star Families Memorial Day Reception. The event, which is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., will be closed to the press. As CNN notes, last year the White House only released a statement following the reception with a snippet of the first lady’s remarks, so we probably shouldn’t expect to see any photos from the event.

Melania’s semi-public appearance is unlikely to squash speculation that there’s something amiss with the first lady. This weekend she skipped a family trip to Camp David (which even Tiffany attended). The White House also announced that she will not be accompanying the president to the G7 Summit in Quebec later this week (which she attended last year), or his meeting with Kim Jong-un in Singapore on June 12. If the president needs a hand to hold, who will be there to swat it away?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday said he had committed no wrongdoing but had “absolute” legal power to pardon himself, echoing an argument put forth by his lawyers in a memo to the U.S. special counsel investigating alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.
[...]
“As has been stated by numerous legal scholars, I have the absolute right to PARDON myself, but why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong?” Trump wrote in a Twitter post on Monday, reiterating his claim that the Russia investigation was a “witch hunt.”

“The appointment of the Special Councel (sic) is totally UNCONSTITUTIONAL,” Trump said in another post.

It will be proven it is Obama who will be held accountable. No amount of whining justifies what that snake did to the new administration. Withholding information in the transfer of power is inexcusable.

Are you really suggesting that some supportive comments made by the U.S. Ambassador to Germany about the rise of conservatism in European Politics, to an American News organization, somehow violate German Law or constitute interference in the internal affairs of you country ?????

If you are correct in this then this "crime" has become very widespread, indeed nearly universal.

Perhaps instead you merely wish to silence voices expressing opinions other than your own. There are labels for that as well.

@Walter Hinteler,
A glimpse into the psyche of German leftists? All Austrians are neo-fascists?

I would imagine so because, after all, it was those vile Austrians, not the Germans, who attempted to conquer the world and exterminate an entire people.

Best you stay away from them and continue to elect true Germans, preferbably dour ones who grew up under German communists.

Empty a few more garbage cans. The Left's days of telling people what they are supposed to think are over. Your MSM is full of opportunist liars, and their lies are exposed daily.

@Finn dAbuzz,
75% of my closest relatives are Austrians.
I've never said or thought that " All Austrians are neo-fascists".

Actually, this my response was about the US ambassador to Germany - I shouldn't have made that remark.

When the Austrian Chancellor is visiting Berlin next week, the US-ambassador - "in honor of his Excellency Sebastian Kurz, Chancellor of the Republic of Austria" - invited him for a state lunch in his residency.
The fact that an ambassador in Berlin pays tribute to a foreign head of government in this way is at least extremely unusual and does not correspond to diplomatic customs.

Well, there is none - the Communists never formed a government in any German state or on federal level.
