That should read

Missed that in the haste of my reply.

@McGentrix,
I was going to post that Atlantic piece. Curious what others here feel about it. I have my own thoughts, but gotta go to work now Mad

Is that a threat? I don't think the French Govt takes internet threats very well.

Why doesn't that "Dr" discuss .45 ACP wounds, or .44? .38 spl? .357 mag?

Oh give it up. The design of those pistol caliber bullets is nothing like the necked-down shells used in high-powered rifles and they don't even approach a similar velocity.

@McGentrix,
Don't worry. I'm not going to kill you. At best it's a forecast.

One takeaway from the Atlantic article — note that Mr. French doesn't require a military-styled weapon to protect his home.

@hightor,

at least Glennn is realistic enough to know that an assault-style weapon is unnecessary for this job (or any other application a civilian might choose to use a gun for.)

Actually, though I have what I need, it is only a financial consideration that keeps me from buying something like an AR-15. They are also used for hunting, just like any other rifle.

I don't see how you can derive that from I wrote in response to Glennn.

So, just for future reference, do you want handguns to be banned as well as semi-automatic rifles?

@hightor,
The guy basically says: it feels good to have a gun. I'm pretty sure it does, like it feels good to have a big dick.

I doubt 99% of "military-styled weapon" owners own them for home protection. A pistol or shotgun serves that purpose much better.

Only you could feel threatened by a Frenchman. Any excuse to fill up your trousers and tremble with fear.

@revelette1,
I don't think Trump cares, but he's smart enough to sense that the wind is turning and that the people want change. As a smart populist, he is trying to exploit the gap between main street Americans and their Washington masters on the issue of gun control. A populist is always going to be harping on how elites have lost touch with the people, and this time he happens to be right.

Sure they are. But with a plethora of fine hunting rifles on the market it's hard to see how restricting their sale would make a difference to anyone.

That was Finn's allegation so he'd have to show you where I said anything like that.

Good. Then we can do away with the "self-defense" excuse.

@revelette1,
I'm entirely cynical about this man. I think it is quite likely that he was moved emotionally by seeing the wounded students (he remarked on the severity of the wounds and how that surprised him - because he's an ignorant and thoughtless doofus).

What happened in that meeting was theater which is his mode and is what he does well. But we know he will say X one day and -X the next day. He is absolutely untrustworthy. Distraction/noise is the only thing we can count on other than lying and corruption and continuing narcissism.

And his party will not let him move anywhere significant on this. Nor will the people at Fox and now, in danger of becoming a laughing stock and in danger of indictment or impeachment, he NEEDS Fox.

Get off your "pistol grip" fixation. Address bullet design and velocity.

There was, in fact, an off-duty police officer working in the nightclub at the time of the shooting. Officer Adam Gruler, a member of the Orlando Police Department since 2001, responded and exchanged fire with the gunman.
