A lot of people have been proclaiming that Mueller's indictment of Russians is just a lot of hoopla. Well, no. For one thing, these people can't go anywhere where the USA has extradition treaties, ie, most of the world. Stuck in Russia for the oligarchs for the rest of their lives is punishment in itself.

In the case of small fish, I could see some of these guys turning themselves over to the US to turn evidence and get into the witness protection program.

The following is the first graphs of a piece at the Columbia Journalism Review. I noted it earlier but if you didn't have the chance then to read it, I assure you it is both worthwhile and important.
Quote:
What if the right-wing media wins?

It was a sweltering July afternoon in the swamp, and a small group of well-dressed, conservative college students from across the country—the next generation of Megyn Kellys, George Wills, and Tucker Carlsons—was filing into an auditorium at the Heritage Foundation’s Washington, DC, headquarters. They had come to study at the feet of Breitbart News Washington editor Matt Boyle, a zealous prophet of the new right-wing media. Boyle’s sermon was not about how to break into the mainstream media and steer the national news agenda toward conservative aims—it was about the end days of journalism itself. And he was not about to skimp on the fire and brimstone.

“Journalistic integrity is dead,” he declared. “There is no such thing anymore. So everything is about weaponization of information.” Standing behind a mahogany podium in a baggy dark suit, Boyle preached with the confidence of a true believer. In a stuttering staccato, he condemned the nation’s preeminent news outlets as “corrupted institutions,” “built on a lie,” and a criminal “syndicate that needs to be dismantled.” Boyle and his compatriots were laboring to usher in an imminent—and glorious—journalistic apocalypse. “We envision a day when CNN is no longer in business. We envision a day when The New York Times closes its doors. I think that day is possible.”

Try to imagine what will happen if such an ideology gets much further than it has already.

Just read what your acolytes are saying, Bernie, to see that it's already happening. These are the sons and daughters of Joseph McCarthy.

McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence. Wikipedia

I always worry about people who stand behind podiums. It's either a very high podium or the speaker is very short or very drunk.

I don't think I'm with you on this.

I don't see any good reason to presume that there is some change in culture caused by an increase in mental health issues.

Right, you're not with me at all.

I think it's the other way around.

@roger,
It's altogether problematic. As for myself, I stand beside the podium.

Let's just spell this out real clear:

Donald Trump won #KYHD49 72-23 in 2016. That's a 49-point margin.

Democrat Linda Belcher won tonight's special 68-32. That's a 37-point margin.

The difference between the two is at astonishing 86 points. We've never seen ANYTHING like this

Democratic win tonight by Linda Belcher in a state seat in Kentucky has an unbelievable 86 point differential. As a @dccc Vice-Chair, I'm now thinking that targeting 101 congressional Republican seats in Nov is perhaps too low. Maybe we should double it and target 202 districts.

@ehBeth,
If this keeps snowballing, a lot of very powerful and wealthy people are going to want Trump gone and preferably before the mid-term election. And a lot of GOP incumbents who have to get through the election will too. The next 8 or 9 months might get really ugly.
