@layman,
When it comes to lying and making things up to try to make a case, no one, NO ONE, comes close to the biggest bitch of them all, the biggest liar of them all, Donald Trump.

@MontereyJack,
Trump is a semi-politician, which means it is his job to lie. He aint masqueradin as no damn so-called "jounalist," whose job is to be honest.

@layman,
Clearly you know your man. He IS the biggest liar of them all. No sane person maintains it is the politician's job to lie. Their JOB is to provide the goods and services that we elect them to do. Trummp is failing abysmally at his job, and he's lying about it, incessantly and continuously.

@layman,

As just one example, she claims that Trump said that "all 54 countries in Africa are shitholes." NOBODY (other than her, I mean) has even remotely claimed, with or without basis, that Trump said any such thing.

Relax, it's just a standard rhetorical device. For example, just the other day I made the claim that the demonstrations in Iran were protesting the high price of food. You immediately characterized this as them protesting the "price of potato chips". I never specifically mentioned potato chips, but yes, they could be considered "food" — and as a frivolous expenditure the use of the term adds to your case. So when Trump mentions "Africa" that includes all 54 countries on the continent (sometimes Trump seems to treat "Africa" as the name of one country, but he's wrong). Reid is within her right as an interviewer to frame topics in order to make a point, just the way you can (and often do) in your argumentative contributions to the continuing discussions on this site.

...are you still contending that the protests in Iran are only about the price of potato chips?

Hey, I've never been to that shithole country; all I know is what I read. But, yeah, some of the accounts I read differentiated these protests from the demonstrations in Teheran in 2009. They said that while the Teheran protestors seemed to be calling for liberalization of society, the demonstrations in rural Iran which broke out recently were centered on economic issues such as unemployment and the price of food.

As often happens, people try to fit the events into their own world view so it was predictable that the right would try give Trump credit for sparking the protests but I haven't seen any evidence that shows a direct link between the administration's hostility to the internationally recognized nuclear agreement and the recent examples of social unrest.

Saudi Arabia is far more oppressive.

Facts? We don't need no stinkin facts!

Quote:
The Center for Immigration Studies has exhaustively examined welfare use by immigrant area of origin. Central America and Mexico are at 73 percent, the Caribbean at 51 perrcent and Africa at 48 percent. Europe was far lower at 26 percent. East Asia was at 32 percent and South Asia the lowest of all groups at 17 percent. And such disparate outcomes for immigrants by nation-of-origin continue multi-generationally.

The U.N. has a "Human Development Index" for all 188 countries. You can see it here, if you want to take yourself a little gander: http://hdr.undp.org/en/composite/HDI

Pakistan is WAY down the list at 147th, yet it is still put in the "medium" human development category. Only those below Pakistan are considered by the U.N. to be "low human development" countries--absolute shitholes, ya might say.

Haiti was 163rd, and every single one of the 25 countries ranked below it (with the exception of the garden spots of Afghanistan and Yemen) was in Africa.

Like, whooda thunk, I ax ya?

@layman,
Notice that the Black Caucus sends Trump a proposal that lottery immigrants must come only from certain countries.

They mean the best from those countries, right?

Hell, no! They mean those selected absolutely randomly, with no regard whatsoever for "merit."

If you are forced to select ONLY on the grounds of country of origin, without regard to individual merit, then you can only base your selection on the country, not individual citizens.

If that's your only way of choosing, then why would you restrict the list of acceptable countries to "shitholes," Trump asked.

I still aint heard no good answer to his question.

@blatham,
On the thread about missing A2K members someone, (I think it might be Edgar, but I'm not sure,) said her computer had finally packed in and she was saving up to get a cheap, reliable, second hand one.
