From the WSJ
Quote:
[Obama] also plans a final major address the week before the inaugugation that will reflect on his policy agenda, according to people familiar with the speech. The address, unusual for an outgoing president, could contrast his approach with Mr Trump's

Brian Beutler tweeted in response

There is nothing more usual than what is described as "unusual" in this article.

Why? Because it's not even close to being true. Prior examples are Washington, Truman, Eisenhower, Johnson, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, George W Bush See Here

Quick note on Trump's "I'm like really smart about computers and hacking, you wouldn't believe how smart I am about this stuff and I've been like really deep into the internet and could write code so fast your eyes would spin and I've always built my own computers and personally know amazing things about the hacking that nobody else knows". So that's all really believable but the fun part is this - when asked what he knew that others don't, Trump says:
Quote:
“You’ll find out on Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Like I've said before, Trump is playing this all in exactly the same manner as a wrestling promoter.

After successfully negotiating a leading role in a series tentatively slated to run four spectacular seasons, Donald Trump took center stage to present yet another exciting scene of things to come. This week the grand master of entertainment left us with a cliff hanger. I don't know about you, but I'm clinging to my seat. Stay tuned.

@Debra Law,
I don't believe any Trump says; he's a pathological liar.
According to Politifact, he lies the majority of times. I don't have the inclination or patience to filter out what are partial truths.
It's amazing how he's suckered the majority of Americans.

Yeah, right Donald you lying piece of rotted dog carcass.

Quote:
The president elect said publicly on Tuesday that he expected to lose the election to Democrat Hillary Clinton, based on polls showing him behind in several critical states.

“I went to see my wife. I say, ‘Baby, I tell you what. We’re not going to win tonight,”’ Trump said in West Allis, Wisconsin. “The polls are coming out -- I always used to believe in those things. I don’t believe them anymore.”

Trump made the comments during a victory rally at the Wisconsin State Fair Exposition Center, where he appeared in public with House Speaker Paul Ryan for only the second time this year. Since Thanksgiving, Trump has visited several states that were key to his victory, calling it a "thank you tour" to his supporters. He abandoned much of his prepared remarks on Tuesday to recount his election-night tale.

He said that he had intentionally rented a smaller hotel ballroom, expecting to make a brief concession speech after losing to Clinton.

@blatham,
I expect that both statements reflect feelings Trump had in mind at various moments during the last few days before the election. When the outcome appears and the anxiety ends, we all tend to better remember feelings and perception that were consistent with the outcome. This is certainly an imperfection, but a very common one.

It appear's to me that, "Donald you lying piece of rotted dog carcass." is a somewhat irrational and emotional overstatement.

There's another element to this that may be significant, and that is the stark contrast between Trump's arrangements for the election night bash and those of Queen Hillary. Victory tends to take care of itself in boosting a celebration, however modestly planned -- a wise choice for either candidate in that contest. Defeat makes the overly lavish plans of unrealistic or deluded candidates look very foolish. In Hillary's case the preparations suggest she was indeed in the grip of some unrealistic delusions about the situation, and that the emergemce of the truth unhinged her for some hours. To her credit she got a grip the following day and made a gracious and candid concession.

Which of these candidates made the wiser choices?

@georgeob1,
I'm not sure why you're trying to justify the lies from Trump. He's a pathological liar. He has a history of falsehoods, and they can be found easily on the internet. The following is only one of hundreds, if not thousands.
http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/03/trump-fact-check-errors-exaggerations-falsehoods-213730

From today's Washington Post.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2017/01/02/yes-donald-trump-lies-a-lot-and-news-organizations-should-say-so/?
utm_term=.ebbf4f99e4fe

What gets at my crawl is Trump's five year history of denying Obama was an American citizen.

That people can excuse this fraud, and try to rationalize his lies is beyond the pale.

@cicerone imposter,
Trump was a "non-stop birther." Not only that, he saw thousands of people cheering when the twin towers were coming down. Nobody else saw it.
We now have to live with his unreliable impressions of what he sees. Scary.
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/03/us/politics/donald-trump-birther-obama.html?_r=0

Actually, what gets my gall is his racial bigotry. We now have a racial bigot and a liar leading our country from January 20, 2017.
I hope he's impeached soon.
