"Politics is the shadow cast by business" - John Dewey
Quote:
The execution of the Observer journalist Farzad Bazoft on 15 March 1990, ordered by Saddam Hussein, provoked outrage around the world. Yet later that same day Margaret Thatcher and her government decided not to take any action, against what ministers admitted was a “ruthless” regime, for fear of jeopardising lucrative exports to Iraq.

In memos written two years after Saddam used mustard gas to slaughter more than 3,000 Kurds and only months before he marched into Kuwait, sparking war, newly released cabinet documents reveal that trade was still the uppermost concern for ministers.
$$$$$
Obvious relevance here to Trump's financial interests/entanglements in Russia (not to mention Exxon and Tillerson, etc)

Because he's a level-headed, big-hearted and amazingly sane sort. This happened Friday.

Interesting detail in there is David Koch as part of the foursome. I am still trying to get a better grasp of how/where the Koch boys and the Trump crowd are moving in tandem or in opposition.

And speaking of the Koch operation and its broad efforts to dis-empower government, particularly in the area of regulations of energy industries, the following seems rather prudent:
Quote:
Six Democratic members of the Senate Environment and Public Works committee sent a letter to Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt on Wednesday, asking that he answer questions about his ties to the fossil fuel industry and a conservative nonprofit funded in part by petrochemical billionaires Charles and David Koch. Pruitt has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to take on the role of EPA administrator, and the Senators behind the letter are looking for more information about how his ties to the fossil fuel industry might influence his work at the EPA before confirmation hearings begin.

Keep an eye on this one. I expect that, like Jeff Sessions, there will be a lot of history deemed not advantageous to be honest and forthcoming about.

@blatham,
Here is another one, to me, he is worse than all of them.

Steve Mnuchin "Foreclosure King" of California

@revelette1,
Yes. But he got really rich from that game which makes him a winner, just the sort for Trump.

As I've suggested before, Trump isn't draining the swamp, he's driving sewage trucks up to it and pumping in the contents.

@blatham,
I don't know that Trump is a comic-bookish character with his history of bigotry and scamming. He's a rotten human being who has shown his bigotry openly. That Americans voted him as our president only proves that bigotry is alive and well. He even scammed whites. That seems not to matter.

@blatham,
Don't forget: This is the guy who claimed he knows more than the generals.
He's never served in our military, or fought in any of our wars.
How many people visit their mechanic for cancer? Evidently, many Trump supporters do just that.
They are life and death decisions.

No matter how great Trump makes America, liberal progressive democrats will continue to promote tyranny disguised as democracy.

That's a lot of words to swim through and try to figure out what you're saying. Are you railing against desegregation? What is you beef? Be clear.

Aren't you allegedly a lawyer? You'd think reading comprehension would be one of the things that would be considered a common necessity for lawyers. I've seen too many contracts for you to claim that paragraph was too difficult for you to grasp.

I attended law school and earned a juris doctorate, but I haven't practiced law in many years. Thus, I haven't been a "lawyer" for many years, although I have engaged in legal research and writing for others during my retirement. My hubby and I own income-producing property, including a successful business, all of which is none of your concern. Because we live in a nation of laws, not of men, all citizens should know and understand the laws that govern our individual and collective conduct.

And, of course, words matter and ought to be understood and mean something. I wonder if the word "ambiguity" means anything to you? It doesn't escape anyone's attention that you omitted both Georgeob1's words and the entire context in which they were offered. Please provide what you omitted and then provide us with your "comprehension" of Georgeob1's message. What is his beef? Be clear.

I am saying what many of us have already said: Donald Trump is a racist and a bigot, among other horrible things (e.g., misogynist), and you're okay with that. Why would you be okay with that when history has taught us about the evil that flows from such ugliness?

Your saying something doesn't make it true. You probably once said that Hillary would be the next President and look how that turned out. You are wrong on too many things to try playing some morality cop.

All the evidence that Donald Trump has provided the court of public opinion throughout his entire life proves that Donald Trump is both a racist/bigot (among other horrible things) and an exploiter of other people's racism/bigotry. It isn't just me that knows that to be true, but the entire world has reached that same verdict. The same as we know the KKK is a racist organization, we know that Donald Trump is a racist human being.

I am not "playing morality cop". People are free to be bigots and a racists so long as they obey the laws and/or refrain from using the power of our government to impose their bigoted and racist ideals on everyone else in society. The honor of "playing morality cop" goes to others, particularly those who purport to rely on their personal religious beliefs to justify using the power of the state as a means to deprive others of basic human freedom and dignity.

I never said Hillary would be our next President. As a candidate, she might have been our next president the same as Donald might have been our next president because they were the only major party candidates who rose to the top to become their party candidates for president. My record on the subject here and elsewhere discloses that I firmly believed (and still believe) both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were (and still are) equally unfit to be president.

The primary voters didn't want Hillary Clinton in 2008. If they didn't want her then, why would the DNC think the voters would want her in 2016? The DNC was wrong in its calculation, but you have no basis for placing that error in judgment on my shoulders.

I am aware of man's inhumanity to man. The reason so much attention is given to the Holocaust is due to the vast similarities between Hitler's rise to power and Trump's rise to power and his clear use of Hitler's playbook. That is something you have yet to acknowledge.
