@hightor,
I only read about half way down, I think the author forgets not everyone has a PhD in something. But from what I can get out of the parts I read, the author of the piece is saying, progressive thinking and moderation leaves red states behind therefore we should what? Be less progressive?

I think the more liberals move into the red states, the more modern those states will evolve and the problem will solve itself---eventually. Just my opinion based on nothing more than my own common sense.

Cheese-eaters ain't goin nowhere with nuthin.

The doughnut eaters aren't going anywhere either. The Republicans are even less interested in the plight of the chronically underemployed than the Democrats. A large number of Trump supporters seem to think that their lives will be immeasurably improved when they can all buy cheap health insurance policies that don't cover anything, when drilling rigs are set up within national monuments, when fags are denied business services, and when we can all breathe polluted air. I don't really see a longterm positive effect on our economy or our culture from Trump's policies. His wins are extolled by partisans as great political victories but I doubt that they'll materially improve the lives of the lower middle class.

@hightor,
Well, between his policies’ effects and the opioid response, he should have killed off most of his supporter-types in a couple of generations.

Just start a garden for the coming apocalypse and don’t forget a can opener.

Progressive thinking is designed to save the lives of lower income people. Most of them are still hung up on wanting to deny civil rights to minorities, so they themselves will die.

I’m starting to just channel Darwin.

Sir Thomas More, a Catholic saint by the way, regarded that not as the exclusive preserve of the Church but thought about a minimum income in the form of public assistance. In 1516.
No progressive but a conservative Renaissance humanist.

Edit: I know that in America, "progressive" is inter-changeably with "liberal" as a term of abuse. But did you know that the British Conservative party is "the new progressive" and Labour are now "old progressives"?
(In Europe, the first progressive movement emerged before the First World War, when followers of the philosopher Hegel promoted the idea of history as progress out of ignorance and division towards peace and prosperity.)

A cooler year here or there won't make any significant difference. Global warming is projected to take a few thousand years to run its course.

Democratic Senator and ex-comedian Al Franken has said he plans to quit "in the coming weeks" after string of sexual harassment allegations.

"I am proud that during my time in the Senate that I have used my power to be a champion of women," the Minnesota senator said from the US Senate floor.

The announcement came after dozens of Democrats called on him to resign.

The ex-comedian is the most prominent political figure to resign amid a wave of sexual misconduct allegations.

So now Franken has resigned has the Republican position changed? Is Roy Moore still allowed to rape as many children as he wants?

@hightor,
That's an interesting piece and all, but I have to say that I don't give a ****. The fact of the matter is that so-called 'Red America' got used to having jobs that paid reasonably well with no education, so they have no history of educating or bettering themselves. They got used to profiting off of things that were destructive to the environment for everyone, so they are against anything intended to halt said destruction. They got used to racism and bigotry as part of their lives, so they actively fight against those who try to stop racism and bigotry.

So ******* what? They'll adapt or die off. The authors seem to think that Liberals are confused about what's going on in these small communities. We're not confused. We just don't care, because everything we do to try and help these people is rejected and their morals and ethics are objectively worse than those held by Liberals. Especially in terms of religion, they are hypocrites of the highest order. They are happy to take federal spending as much as possible for themselves while railing about the deficit and minorities.

The piece doesn't offer a solution, and that's okay; we're converting their children and we will crush their way of life in short order, the same way we have heavily Conservative societies all over the globe, with the power of our liberal culture.

This whole dossier **** is unraveling around discredited Strzok. He is a symptom of a cancerous FBI. The FBI is a rogue Deep State ecosystem.

Listen to Q and A with Wray. This is not a transparent democratic society when this lying, deceptive shadow government is completely unaccountable for their actions.

We currently do not have a legitimate FBI. I don't even want to think about the CIA.

Sorry, but this is in idiotic distraction that the right-wing is throwing up. Literally nothing about the FBI has anything to do with the Dossier at all, and nothing contained within has been proven to be wrong at all.

Sure, sure. Now, go sit with the other tin-foilers in the corner. Hey, there's a big flat-earth convention coming up, you can probably still get tickets!

In reality; the FBI is as legitimate as it's always been, as is the CIA.

@Cycloptichorn,
That's pretty much my take on it as well. I know there are Trump supporters who reject most of what I would consider as good policy or needed reforms. But I don't think that going to church with with them isgoing to solve anything.

@Cycloptichorn,
There IS A LOT of distraction. YOU and the Dems are doing it.

Democrats: Let's whip up charges of sexism against Trump!

World: Holy ****! Look at all these Democrats who are sex predators!!

Democrats: Hey! Don't look at that! It's a distraction! Look over here!! Over here!!
------------------

Democrats: Hey! Let's use the FBI and some Russians and...hell, throw British intelligence in there... to gather oppo research on Trump!

Also Democrats: Hey! Maybe we can get Trump impeached by saying he tried to gather oppo research from Russians!!

World: Holy ****, the Dems are MORE guilty of collusion than Trump is!

Democrats: Hey!! Don't look at that!!! It's a distraction! Look over here! Over here!!!!
-------------------
DNC: So, we're going to tell our 'journalist' minions to elevate Trump to pied piper status and skew the very limited Bernie narrative to crazy socialist Jew
Bernie who can't possibly win.

World: Holy ****! Look at these DNC emails, proving collusion, cheating, and the smoking gun proving the DNC is responsible for Trump's election.

Also DNC: Hey!!! Don't look at that!!! Look waaay over there! Yeah!! The Russians did it. Look at the Russians!

---------------------
You're becoming a master distractor, but I'm looking at what's actually happening.

I’m glad that Conyers and Franken resigned.

It’s worth pointing out though that they are going to be replaced with Democrats, so there’s not a net loss there.

Should Moore resign before the election then it’s likely the Democrat will be elected and that would be one less Republican in Congress. That is why Moore won’t resign.

I don’t think Conyers or Franken would have resigned if there were Republican governors in their states so I understand the political play here.

But those are "what if" scenarios, as it stands the reality and facts are that the Democrats are purging their ranks of those accused of misconduct and Republicans are actively campaigning and voting for a child molester.
