The following from the NYT has way more information and explanations. If Trump didn't kill Obamacare, he gutted it and it will probably self destruct. But, people knew what they were doing when they voted for the monster.

What We Know About Trump’s Twin Blows to Obamacare (NYT)

@oralloy,
You heard wrong. Those subsidies for low-income recipients of ACA assistance are written into law, the recipients receive them whether Congress appropriates funds or not. You're thinking about the CSR payments to insurers, which Congress made part of the appropriations process and which Trump decided not to continue on an emergency basis.

Trump's decision adds to the deficit and increases the amount of subsidies that low-income people receive. It doesn't save the gov't any money. What more, it's going to increase the price of health insurance for everyone at the same time.

Y'all might be taken more seriously on topics if you did even a few moment's research before posting, how hard is it to Google ****? Sheesh

@izzythepush,
You would have done better to say nothing at all if it wasn't of interest to you.

@Cycloptichorn,
Just a little bit of research would do wonders!!

And did he really just say this
Quote:
The Republican plan that the Democrats defeated earlier this year would have dramatically increased those subsidies.
.

I'm certain that was not in any republican healthcare plan that was presented for vote.

@revelette1,
You should be alarmed. But as of right now there hasn't been anything seriously damaging to the law yet. What Trump has done is invoked a lot of uncertainty into the health care market, at the exact time that people are going to have to enroll in coverage for next year. That's going to cause premiums to rise even more than they may have otherwise.

@maporsche,
Yup. But can you blame them? Not even Trump knows the slightest details of the plans that he proposes or puts in place.

Today, he said that he thought the Democrats would be blamed, for sure, for his actions blowing up the ACA, which he said was 'dead' and no longer existed. The man lives in a fantasy world.

Krugman outlines 10 straight-up lies the GOP is telling, with regards to their proposed tax plan. They are literally lying about every single part of it, just outright lying to the public. It's some indefensible ****.

@Cycloptichorn,
Despite losing last November, the Democrats and left leaning people in the country have really been blessed that Trump is an ineffective a leader as we all thought he was.

It could be so much worse if our 'leader' were actually a tiny bit effective at enacting change.

@revelette1,
You asked me a question, I answered. I do sympathise with ordinary Americans' access to affordable healthcare, but it's not my number one concern regarding Trump.

Jennifer Rubin and Steve Benen get this exactly right.
Quote:
On health care, Trump doesn't have anything resembling a plan. He has a desire for Congress to tear down "Obamacare," and when those efforts came up short, the president took steps to sabotage the nation's health care system unilaterally, but the president has no constructive vision of his own. His principal focus is on tearing down what others have created.

On immigration, Trump doesn't have the foggiest idea what kind of system should be in place, but he's convinced himself that it's necessary to tear down what Barack Obama did. And on the international nuclear agreement with Iran. The president hasn't offered anything resembling a coherent strategy, but he's certain Obama's policy is wrong.

The pattern is hard to miss.
Benen

Trump The Destroyer

He prefers to be seen doing something rather than to do something for which he would bear the consequences.

Have you really been counting on the Republicans to do anything about gun deaths in the US, even something like bump stocks?
Quote:
“It’s the height of irony if we don’t repeal Obamacare, we don’t cut taxes, but we do implement more gun control,” Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) told the Post. “That’s a perversion of the GOP agenda, and I think my colleagues recognize that, which is why they’re hoping the ATF will do it.”

Oh. So, Congress could act, and a new law might have a positive impact, but this would be “a perversion of the GOP agenda” – which is to say, taking legislative action in the hopes of saving lives would be off-brand for the Republican Party in 2017.

@blatham,
Although we've not been hit by the hurricane it's been very weird and apocalyptic in Southampton.

An "unusual" reddish sky and red-looking sun have been reported across many parts of England.
The phenomenon was initially seen in the west of England and Wales before spreading to other areas.
BBC weather presenter Simon King said it was due to the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia dragging in tropical air and dust from the Sahara.
He added that debris from forest fires in Portugal and Spain was also playing a part.
The dust has caused shorter wavelength blue light to be scattered, making it appear red.

I don't know. The news reporter seemed pretty sure that the subsidies to poor people were in danger.

Most of the time when I post something I already know every possible fact about the subject.

Now and then I happen to be just barely interested enough to post about a subject that I have no interest in doing research into.

That's reasonable I think. I can't be expected to know 100% of every subject under the sun. It's good enough that I have complete expertise over most of the subjects that I post about.

@oralloy,
You're wrong, because the Democrats didn't defeat any plans this year. The GOP failed to even get to 50 on their own. The Dems couldn't have stopped them if they'd gotten to 50.

You're wrong on both the policy and procedural aspects of the subject you're discussing.

Have you bothered to see what Obamacare premiums are going to be the coming year? They were already more than people can afford.
