The real question is, what would French president Maricon have done had he been there.....

I believe he is bound to explain the reversal of any of his long-held positions — not in accordance with my wishes — he owes it to the people who voted for him.

So now you're worried about his supporters? How nice of you.

Quote:
If he begins to accept the prevalent understanding of CC then he will need to explain it to his followers because he had previously rejected the science. Otherwise he will appear to have been sucked into the dismal swamp of DC politics.

Agreed. He has plenty of time though. We not all going to die for at least another 50 years.

Quote:
Well, we're not on the verge of extinction.

OK, that clarifies for me where you stand on this, but there are plenty of CC alarmists who disagree with you.

If China and India are making progress in reducing emissions that's great, but the goals that were set by them and applauded by CC true believers are not sufficient without much greater reductions by the US. Is this not the case?

You seem to be ignoring the point that george has made more than once that US emissions are being reduced as well and without fiats by the government. I'm not overly concerned about the US shouldering a disproportionate share of the load. It's something we have been doing for some time now as respects all sorts of global concerns, but when the people whose load we are carrying get all outraged and snotty about us not thinking it's particularly fair, my first reaction is eff 'em, and if shouldering the load means tens of thousands of Americans being forced out of jobs, I have a hard time rationalizing why it is so important to save Indian and Chinese jobs.

Call me selfish or a chauvinist...it's been done before.

Michael ******* Savage. Let's just push America straight into the toilet. Good plan, boys.

Gosh ! It appears that you & Snood don't like Mr. Savage ! Some others do. He lives in the Bay area, and I attended a small dinner he hosted a few years ago. I think it was an effort to raise money, or create a support organization, or something like that. Not much interest elicited. He struck me as a bit self-important and ambitious.

Yes, a crippled government is the goal we've know about for a long time. "Shrink it small enough so it can be drowned in the bathtub" in Grover Norquist's words.

But I don't include Trump himself as an adherent to this political ideology. He shows no evidence of having such a thing. This is coming from elsewhere and he's playing along because it suits his present ego-maniacal purposes.

Finally you've come close to accurately describing a conservative movement goal, however "crippling" is a foolish choice of words. Even your long time nemesis Grover Norquist isn't an anarchist.

Shrinking the government (way back) is the goal, and one of the reasons Trump was elected. Whether or not he's up to the task remains to be seen.

Obviously people who believe in the primacy of the State are horrified by this goal but your casting it in sinister terms is no different than someone asserting that liberals all seek a a communist tyranny.

Yes. And that most dangerous version of Trump will be supported by the modern right pretty much regardless of what he would do. Comforting, isn't it?

Well, we'll see because we are bound to have another domestic attack.

When we do, if Trump orders martial law (a la Lincoln) or the roundup of all American Muslims (a la FDR) I will join the Resistance, but until then Favreau and you are talking out of your asses.

@layman,
Yes America First and if you were to live in France I would have no problem if you declared "France First"

Obama liked to think of himself as the global president who was going to tame American excesses and bring our nation into conformity with global interests. That's not the job description of POTUS.

Back during WWII, when fighter pilots were protecting B-52's bombing the living **** out of kraut hangouts like Dresden, they would get a little bored on the return trip home.

It was relatively common for them to strafe some hapless Frog farmer plowing his fields on the way home--just for the target practice of it all.

Well, that, and to benefit humanity by eliminating one more Frog, ya know?

It isn't even to be a good world citizen. History shows clearly what it has been and is, Postus's commiting war crimes, terrorism, government overthrows, murder and mayhem, raping, phosphorus bombs, cluster bomb presents for little children, baby killers [note Vietnam, Iraq and numerous other countries].

You don't even attempt denials of any of this because you all know that it is true. Then layman openly celebrates this evil and you all sit silent.

Just how evil is that, Finn? I know you are listening, your chickenshit behavior notwithstanding.

Your knowledge of the industry appears to be seriously deficient. Are you suggesting that Sinclair now dwarfs Time Warner, owner of CNN?
Of course not. Nor GE/Comcast nor News Corp nor Disney nor Viacom nor CBS. Now re-read my post and answer the question put to you. The issue is level of saturation into American homes tied into a distinct partisan political agenda. News Corp is the only entity above which, though much bigger and more powerful/influential, matches Sinclair. The others do not.
