if you can't smoke in prison, where can you smoke?
SACRAMENTO, California (Reuters) -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who set up a tent outside his smoke-free state office to accommodate his taste for a good cigar, signed a bill Monday barring tobacco from state prisons.
That makes absolutely no sense, but Arnold seems to never worry much about consistency, does he?
Thank god they didn't ban pole smoking in prison.
Or pink cigars....okay, I'll stop now.
Oh man - that is soooo gonna help the newbies settle in...
I promised I would stop, but I simply can't on this issue:
"Arnold Schwarzenegger, who [pitched] a tent outside his smoke-free state office to accommodate his taste for a good cigar, signed a bill Monday barring tobacco from state prisons.
The measure amends the state's penal code to bar tobacco products from prisons and youth correctional facilities. Violators are subject to a fine."
Yes, most prison inmates appreciate a fine penal code, and a good Cuban, which one way or another, I'm sure they can find.
So what are they going to do - send you to jail?
Well, look for further unrest amongst an already violent crowd, and a new medium of exchange.
he's gotten in trouble in the past with the wimmins for pitching a tent...
Yep.
And Kerry's flip-flopping has something to do with it...
Don't forget Dan Rather...
Omigod, it's a vast left-wing conspiracy!
It really is a great idea.....a bunch of extra chromosone disgruntled nothing to lose guys with nothing but time on their hands all going through cold turkey at the same time from an addiction with a les successful quit rate than heroin...... and at the womens prisons....add that to pms and I'd love to be a fly on the wall......Yeehaw!!!!! Does Cali have a death row? Because I'd be interested to see if they made 'em stop smoking there.......for health reasons......
What about on Death Row? "Sorry, no smoking - could kill you y'know".
Well, I can't say that it'll be bad for them to stop smoking. Smoking kills you and all... And you wouldn't want to shorten your DAYS IN PRISON...
Honestly though, from a liberty standpoint, smokers rights are being violated all over the country. It's a stupid choice, but it should still be a person's choice to harm themselves or not. The government should not take on the roll of our mothers (on our paychecks.) Statistics on secondhand smoke damage simply aren't substantial enough to ban smoking on such a massive scale. The government is making laws to protect us from ourselves.
If the government really wanted to help inmates, it would do a better job of separating violent from non-violent criminals and preventing rape. (As the cook playfully pointed out.)
did you call Cav a cook? A COOK???!!! A MUTHA F*#KING COOK???!!!!!
Cav, are you going to let him get away with that?
I smell an ass whupping coming on......
Unfortunately, most prisoners are not tidy smokers. Prison plumbing has a lot of grates to catch contraband--and cigarette butts--especially filters-- clog the grates.
Our county prison outlawed smoking two years ago and several thousand dollars have been saved in plumbing bills.
Also cigarettes are prison currency--and abused currency.
They sure ain't gonna stop being currency by being illegalized (is that a word?). As somebody else has already said, I forsee some riots coming. And, btw, what about the guards? I assume the 'no tobacco in prisons' rule means no tobacco in prisons. Security will get more lax as guards take more breaks to step outside for a smoke.
Yeah, the new 'currency' will have to be blow-jobs.
