Heh.
Seriously tho - where's this madness gonna end? And I say that as a non-smoker.
To each his own sins. "Only in your own place", sure, but these people dont have their own place.
Senseless moralism ... patronizing, 'tis.
...looks like cold turkey for everyone.

Cav, are you going to let him get away with that?
I smell an ass whupping coming on......
I can't whoop Portal's ass...she's a girl and all.
What's wrong with being a cook?
(its like calling albert einstein a mere scientist...)
Region Philbis wrote:(its like calling albert einstein a mere scientist...)
Albert Einstein was a scientist.
My garbageman is not a "sanitation engineer."
A secretary still does the exact same job if they're called a "Personal assistant."
And there is nothing negative about being a cook. I'm sure that Cav is very talented.
Please note, I was not the one to take issue with the term. However, there is a hierarchy in the kitchen, and 'chef' means 'top dog'. The term, at least in French, has many classifications, indicating a certain level of experience. For example, one moves from an apprentice to 'Chef Garde Manger', salads, cold appetizers, terrines, etc. Then 'Chef Entremetier', hot sides, all vegetables for main courses, hot appetizers, etc. Then, 'Chef Saucier', main courses and sauces, meat preperation and cooking. Then 'Chef de Partie', meaning you know all the stations and can work any one of them. Then 'Sous Chef', in some ways the worst job of all. You are responsible for all the staff when 'Chef' is away, and also for a lot of the administrative stuff like placing orders and making sure everything arrives on time, and the plates go out looking great. All the work, none of the glory. Then, 'Chef'. Ha ha....the biggest stress here, even if it is the top position, is that it's your name going out to the public, so you need to be diligent to ensure the quality of your staff, and what they put out. Anyway, some kitchens work differently, but this is how I was trained. There isn't anything wrong with being a 'cook', but it does indicate a certain lack of training and education.
so...Chef!!!! Cav is a Chef!!!!!! God told me so....

I'll accept your praise, but I don't need your creepy god.
With faith, who needs deities? Hmm...wrong forum...
Thank you for the clarification Cav.
I'm still not thinking of Cook as deragatory though. I guess the term could either be viewed like:
Chef is to cook
as
General is to officer
Whereas I view it as:
Chef is to cook
as
General is to Army member
like george bush is a pubic servant
PS, I never took it as derogatory, and your assessment is correct. A proper kitchen runs very much like an army, with generals and footsoldiers. Col Man, bush as a pubic servant...hilarious!
