@TheCobbler,
Saudi Arabia is the most oppressive regime in the ME. Women aren't allowed to drive. Saudis have been financing IS in Iraq/Syria and Saudis were deeply involved in 9/11.

The West is backing the wrong horse.

Worked out well didn't it? Underfunded, ill thought out and unsuccessful. All America did was destabilise the region, and turn a stable country with little or no jihadi presence into one where jihadis control vast areas, not to mention the knock on effect on other countries like Libya and Syria.

It was a complete unmitigated disaster, and that was obvious before the invasion started.

Dick Cheney made a lot of money out of it though.

@izzythepush,
I know father.. You know how deeply I respect you..
Excuse me if replying Cobbler in your post implied that..
I like the humanitarian concerns behind the posts of Cobbler..
I just wanted to tell her/him (I think her) that having such a claim is an open sign of ignorance of the outside world..
Also, I am not pro bombarding civilians..
Bombarding civilians is condemned wherever it is whether in Syria or in Afghanistan by unmanned aircrafts or by Israel killing 1500 palestinians in just 11 days, or by Saudi killing thousands of Yemenis...

@izzythepush,
This is a religious and a cultural thing.

Religion and culture need to homogenize and level out.

@TheCobbler,
That's incredibly vague. Any concrete proposals on how that could be accomplished, or is it just a meaningless platitude?

@sky123,
Cobbler is a decent person, I'm not disputing that. He hasn't got a clue about the ME though.

Firstly, my apologies..
Secondly, it is the nature of discussion.. Sometimes agree and sometimes disagree... It doesn't mean that I don't like you.
I believe that before universal laws, we are all the same..
The patriotism is not any more an interesting subject for me. At least now that I've got 28 years old.
I do not want to be an Iranian. Also I do not want to be an American. Neither Russian. Nor any other nationality. I just want to be a real human. Wherever I am.
For that reason, whenever I see an Afghan or any other immigrant in my country, not only I do not disregard them, but also, I try to be the first one who say hello to the other. Also, I try to shake their hands warmly.
The only thing that I said is that we ALL must put bigotry aside to find how this world has been dishonest and unfair to us.

@izzythepush,
I think countries making strong alliances (even in the midst of vast cultural diversity) is the way rather than countries going off on their own and ignoring long held alliances which only allow the common populations to radicalize and no longer are they able to relate even to countries living on their own borders. Trade agreements, NATO, the European and other unions, the UN... and many other organizations tied to governments that knit the world together in cultural and economic ways. I support these alliances. Smile

This is the opposite of what Donald Trump is proposing...

If Russia continues on their path of power over culture they will be broken up again...

Do you want everyone to desert you Putin like what has been done to the republican party?

Keep it up then...

@TheCobbler,
The USSR was broken up not Russia. With the annexation of the Crimea Russia has increased its size. Putin still enjoys a lot of support, after various sanctions and a drop in the price of oil, an aggressive foreign policy acts as a distraction, and a supine media hides the true extent of what's going on.

They're pretty active on social media too.

So much for freeing the people from Saddam, Iraq's legislature passes its own prohibition law.

Quote:
Parliament in Iraq has voted to ban the sale, import and production of alcohol, with backers of the move arguing that its availability contradicts Islam and is unconstitutional.

Opponents argue that the vote infringes constitutional guarantees of freedom of religious belief for minority groups such as Christians.

They say they will appeal against the surprise decision in the courts.

An official said that the ban was a last-minute move by conservatives.

Since the fall of Saddam Hussein, activities perceived to be contrary to the moral code of Islam have come under repeated attack, with alcohol shops targeted in Baghdad and other cities.

While alcohol is not commonly found in restaurants and hotels in Iraq, correspondents say its consumption is relatively widespread in the scores of small shops and bars in Baghdad.

Correspondents say the new law has been passed at a time when attention is focused on the battle to wrest control of Mosul from the militant group known as Islamic State.

Ammar Toma, an MP who supported the ban, argued that it was justified because the constitution stipulates that "no law that contradicts the established provisions of Islam may be established".

@izzythepush,
Izzy maybe you should turn your gaze to the US and see what Christian religion is doing to promote racism and religious hate.

Banning alcohol seems tame compared to that.

Aren't you the one who once said Christian religion "civilized Europe"?

Putin's war on gays and free speech is also religiously motivated.

Not sure why you are directing this at me when I am agnostic and don't give one hog's wart for any religion.
