@maporsche,
But it's impossible for Trump to keep his mouth shut. Impossible.

He might be playing the Bernie card and hoping the FBI will put her in jail.

Clinton surrogate skewers the GOP: Trump got picked because you think ‘Duck Dynasty is a think tank’

Trump supporter Kayleigh McEnany spoke on CNN about the ways in which the Republican Party and many of its establishment members worked against Trump and “disrespected” the voters who supported him. “Without Republican voters, the Republican Party won’t exist,” she determined.

The comeback was a thing of pure beauty:

“Without independent voters, no candidate is going to be a credible candidate for president,” Clinton surrogate Robert Zimmerman replied. “Donald Trump succeeded in a Republican Party where 44 percent of them think the president is a secret Muslim. To that voter, Duck Dynasty is a think tank. Donald Trump still won’t even recognize that President Obama is an American citizen. So, it tells you just how bankrupt Donald Trump is ethically and morally and also how dysfunctional, how extreme the Republican Party has become. That’s the real issue here.”

Yes Trump is now behind. After debating Hillary Clinton he may fall more behind than he already is.

I disagree. Even if you are winning, the best strategy is to campaign as if you were losing. That way you won't take anything for granted. The favorite still has to debate. The favorite does not want to be seen as someone ducking debates. Any candidate who looks like they are trying to avoid debates will probably suffer in the polls. That applies to the favorite as well as the underdog.

ANY candidate that is seen as being afraid to debate has something to lose.

@Real Music,
Why wouldn't a winning candidate not want to debate?

I believe the winning candidate should and will debate. That is good strategy. I have no doubt that Hillary Clinton enthusiastically welcomes any debates with Trump. To run away from debating would be a mistake for ANY candidate. I was just posting replies to other posts on the issue. Other post were referring to what one candidate or another has to lose or gain in debating or not debating.

@maporsche,
Where people tend to shoot their feet at is at the debate:

Because there's no reason. If you're ahead a debate can't help you. If you goof, you may lose your lead.

If you're losing a debate is a "hail Mary" attempt to get ahead.

@bobsal u1553115,
Trump is making false claims about having a debate with Hillary.\

Clinton's lead is now 15 points.

@cicerone imposter,
I have trouble figuring out how having a debate opposite a football game is supposed to hurt Trump more than it would Clinton.

Trump tries his best to make excuses. He knows he has a fat chance in hell he's going to best Hillary in a debate.

I suppose Clinton would oppose the scheduling too - if she expected to lose.

One would certainly hope so. I wish Hilary was as quick witted as Bill. She'd kick tRumpsass big time.

Clinton has the big advantage, because she has the real experience to lean on. Trump only has his imagination and big mouth.

Because if they're winning there's only a goof up and a loss. Ask Nixon how he felt after his first debate with Kennedy on TV.

He'd be a fool to duck a debate, and she'd be a bigger fool not to duck a debate.

@bobsal u1553115,
There's another negative aspect of a Trump presidency. Many flag officers will leave the military. Maybe, he can select his daughter to run the Department of Defense.
