@Kolyo,

Similar to the SS in Nazi Germany, unlike the thuggish SA brownshirts done over during the night of the long knives, the SS were seen as very respectable.

Yeah. What has happened to them politically is a serious matter. I'm not worried about the WH this time but my concerns re the Senate are greater than they were. My real concerns are about what happens after, over the next decade. I am not optimistic that their system is capable of self-correction.

I see that Cruz is going on the campaign trail in support of Trump. Which, when I saw that news item, reminded me of a wonderful old song:

Love for sale
old love
new love
any love but true love
Love for sale

Golly goodness. I see that The Economist is endorsing Hillary Clinton.
Quote:
The Economist, the Europe-focused news magazine, has endorsed Hillary Clinton for president, writing in its Nov. 5 print edition that the former secretary of state is “a better candidate than she seems and better suited to cope with the awful, broken state of Washington politics than her critics will admit.”

While the endorsement’s writers offered warm praise of Clinton’s candidacy, they also wrote that their choice was made much easier given the alternative of Donald Trump in the White House.

“The choice is not hard. The campaign has provided daily evidence that Mr. Trump would be a terrible president,” The Economist noted, noting that he has “exploited America’s simmering racial tensions” and possesses a character and temperament that would make him “horribly unsuited” for the presidency’s heavy responsibilities.

@blatham,
The Economist has always been very heavy on common sense.

@izzythepush,
Actually, it's a source I have never attended to other than in very odd occasions where I've bumped into some interesting link to it. To be honest, I posted that here for georgeob's benefit as I know he's a fan. george is a friend, you see.

Well of course they did. When your party is so unpopular that you cannot win when maximal numbers of citizens cast votes, then you have to try and remove the potential for voters likely to support the opposition to be able to cast a ballot. What's really dangerous here is that almost no Republicans speak out against this anti-democratic strategy. That's a very bad sign.

@blatham,
My younger brother is a republican, and was voted in twice to serve in the state legislature. I consider him an outstanding person of ethics, but don't understand how he can support a party that suppresses voters.

Trump is back to harassing reporters, one in particular seems to get his goat or something.

After Trump takes dig at reporter, #ImWithTur hashtag comes to her defense

@reasoning logic,
Yeah, question it. Snopes says the claim is totally bogus, more rightwing disinformation. As per usual.

@bobsal u1553115,
TBF, a lot of Trump supporters were at home loading their guns so they can make sure there's no intimidation at polling booths.

The November Surprise:

@TheRickWilson:
I'll say it for the 10th time:
1. Media has the two story leads.
2. Neither was the story from yesterday.
3. I don't control timing.

@coalsmom: @TheRickWilson READ https://twitter.com/noclador/status/794140936754368512

@TheRickWilson: @coalsmom I'm aware.

@noclador: Tomorrow it will be 4 days to the #USElection = two BRUTAL revelations about @realDonaldTrump will come out. After which: exile or prison.

Then there is this.

@TrueFactsStated: 1. Many of you have heard of a bombshell coming out about Trump. A source who I know & trust has informed me of TWO such bombshells.

@TrueFactsStated: 2. My understanding is that the media knows about both of these and has been seeking to corroborate them before going with the story.

@TrueFactsStated: 3. The first bombshell is that US and British Intel have a video of Trump with two prostitutes. Both US and British media have this story.

@TrueFactsStated: 4. The second allegation is that Trump has paid for up to a dozen abortions for various women.

One of the best pieces I've read on the unprecedented level of damage that is now being done to the political system in the US. Take the time to read this.
