It kind of sucks though that if Bush loses we'll end up with another special interest lifetime phony-ass politician. I guess it'll be better than that smarmy lying little **** we have in there now, but I'm sure Kerry won't be so wonderful either.

PD

I went through a bunch of those links. Interesting to see how a single passage, or a single commentary, will get repeated many times now that our group mind is HTMLed. It's an old intel trick to have the same message stated in a few locations, giving the impression of widespread concurrence of view.

Moby's 'advice' to plant false stories makes up a good portion of the links pulled up. If I see him, I'm going to bitch-slap him. It's a perfect setup for denial by republicans of negative stories.

Further, I really think it is the wrong way to go. I ran into this bush/abortion story a few days ago, and held off on putting it here until some greater degree of verification was met. Flynt may have this right, I think it probably is, but I so detest this tendency towards false information, or uncareful reportage.

Bill, The shame is that comics are not afraid to share truths about the members of this administration, while the big media companies hide behind some brick wall.

The story of the alleged Kerry/intern affair was reported widely in the European press, too, immediately after Drudge came up with it and when the mainstream US media was still ignoring it. Go figure.

CI: I was under the impression that the big media corporations syndicate and print the cartoons. So how does that fit together?

Good question, Thomas. But there's a disconnect between what we see on tv and the comics - don't you agree?

I'd say most of that is because it's hard to televise budget numbers that don't add up, balance sheets that don't balance, and complicated cross ownerships. American print media I frequently read (New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Business Week) seem to do a reasonably good job at it. And neither of these are tiny left wing hippie publications.

Both the story and the denial by the woman allegedly involved were front page news several days ago. The story was found to have no validity

Also, political cartoonists have a brief to go that little bit further, and allow themselves to make points the serious journalists dont quite yet dare to take on ...

That goes for the papers as well as the TV

I know. But there was a delay between the Drudge publication and the mainstream media coverage. Basically, I think the latter only finally jumped on it when both Kerry and the girl and her parents officially came out to deny the rumour. Before that, when it'd just been a Drudge "report", the network media wouldnt touch it - in fact, some conservatives were complaining about that. But over here it was in the newspapers straight away (for better or for worse).
