Well, I'm sure there must be some Big Hair action around Denver, bob. Suburbs are always good places for spotting the hottest trends...

Some revelations arrive to welcome and sunny effect. Some do not. Some...take for example our Theban up and comer Oedipus, are visited by eye-openers that really throw a **** into your day, the "self knowledge is almost always bad news" variety.

I've just had one. Hobitbob and Tonya Harding in a Washinton State mountain town motel (with a buzzing neon sign above their locked door) and inside things are going on with baby oil and hubcaps and it is more than I can handle.

Ok....here's the story. Consider this an innocent little diary entry from some odd poster out through your window off in the night, in some city far away and his post has found its way to the wrong thread, where a different group of people hang out, and and it's a group of people he wouldn't have thought in a year of sundays to write a diary entry to. Not that you aren't interesting people, it is just that for the thought couldn't have crossed our diarists's mind - his bridges are out. He's stoned tonight as he makes his daily journal fill up.

unfortunately i had a happy a childhood, i only had to deal with the Israel/Palestine conflict of '48 Korea, the cold war and bomb shelters, Tail gunner Joe McCarthy, minor flesh wounds in VietNam and Richard Nixon. I am not prepared for the current world situation.

There's a side of you here which your mother may or may not know the full truth concerning. Nor do we. But I've made a modest hobby of the aesthetics of pervdom. I find myself in something like a 'Blue Velvet' role here, watching you abuse Tonya (which you do for one sixth of the amount of time she's abusing you) in the red glow of the buzzing neon.

Y'know, after the last few days, I'm tempted to leave A2K all together. I have fun most of the time, like the exchange with Blatham, and have learned a great deal from BBB,and Nimh, and Lola, and Dys, and Sofia, and Timber, and LW, etc..., but I am honestly beginning to dread when I have a notification of a reply in my email for fear it is another ball'o'vitriol from one particular poster, whose most polite comment has been telling Tart to get on her broom and fly away, or a long attempt to prove how superior another certain poster is to the rest of us, whilst quoting the entire text of what seems to be the only book he's ever read.

Since I'm on literally hundreds of active threads, I have email updates turned off (except for PM notifications), and I don't remember for sure, but doesn't the "New Reply" notifier list the membername of the poster? I seem to recall that it does, but I dunno for sure. Anyhow, I gotta say a lot of the folks most upset with any particular member put an awful lot of energy into giving the member with whom they're irritated exactly the sort of web experience guaranteed to encourage more irritation. It doesn't help a bit to turn a troll into a celebrity; thats the whole point of trolling. And a good recommendation for scrolling.

Timber, I think it depends on the email program. Mine is Outlook Express, and I get a notification of thread title, but not the responder's name or the message.

OK, I was wrong ... thought it did say "so and so has replied" or something ... sorry. I haven't seen one for a long time ... not since the morning I went to check me email and found I had 174 new messages since the night before, 153 of them from [email protected]. I usually check "Posts since your last visit", scanning for anything that might require "Official Attention", then when that's out of the way, usually I just go to "View your posts" and try to figure out where I left off. I do quite a bit of scrollin', though prolly not as much as I should; sometimes I get a kick outta playin' with a troll. Guilty pleasure admission Embarrassed

It's good to know even timber has some problems with the workings of A2K. Wink Always thought he was invincible.
