This is an argument you lost a long time ago. The world calls it football, and the reason for its popularity is twofold, the rules are very simple and you can play it with very little. A tin can will do. Grid iron is a rich man's sport, the kit costs a small fortune and the rules are overcomplicated. Someone once tried explaining them to me and I lost interest half way through.
Currently live football is available on pay per view and the broadcasters rake it in. Grid iron is free on BBC2 and nobody is interested, except the odd nerd. This was all tried back in the 80s when it was shown on Channel 4. There was a brief surge in popularity for about two years. A bit like this stuff.
