I have a couple of pieces of Swedish linen that I only bring out at Christmas.

This one isn't mine, but I sure wish it was Smile

@Miller,
You tell me as a Swede what we Swedes talk about when we are away from home as if I would not know that.

@saab,
I'm trying to find a pic that is close to what I have - they are pieces from just after the first World War.

@ehBeth,
I do not know if you know this one is from the part of Sweden called Dalarna.
They all wear the typical national costums. They dance long dance.
Wonderful

@ehBeth,
Sorry e-beth it is a Danish card. The flag is Danish and the text is Danish.

@saab,
that's funny - I wondered why the wording was different from the other cards - and thought the flag had to do with the game Embarrassed oops

@ehBeth,
First you start off in a ring and the the leader takes you in and out of rooms up and down stairs and if weather allows it around the house
Wonderful after all the food.

@saab,
The 'long dance' (Lange Tanz) is known in my native town at least since the 15th century - not related to Christmas but to the marksmen's festival.

Interesting. Looks like fun if you've got the right kind of home.

As you can see here there are plenty of songs and dances we do around the tree or in summer the midsummerpoole

@saab,
That looks like something we did at a Balfolk (Baltic Folk Dance Collective) event. There was also a burning donkey/goat or something like that at the winter solstice party.

__

Now that I think of it, I'm remembering more about the burning goat.

@ehBeth,
Since 1966 when the first giant Yule Goat (IKEA's) went up in Gävle, Sweden, the goat - known as the Gävlebocken - has been burned more than 30 times.

@ehBeth,
The thirteen metre high Gävle goat adorns the Castle square in Gävle every year from the first advent.
It has been burnt down a couple of times so it is now very well watched

Here is the whole history, but I cannot see that IKEA was involved.

@saab,
My bad, I mixed up two Christmas goats.
The IKEA goat is in Garðabær, Iceland, at the IKEA store there, imitating the goat in Gävle. And this one was burnt down as often.

This year, the fire was started by faulty Christmas lights used to decorate the goat and not by arsonists

I've been in Dalarna for the midsommar festival.

Absolutely fascinating to someone from this end of the world.

Here, midsummer and Christmas almost coincide.

The 12th
I the old days the cheese should be finished by now and tasted.
We buy them and put a red or green ribbon around the cheese. Looks festival.
