Just got an e mail about an upcoming wine tasting-dinner at a local restaurant. Maybe we should have a similar one.

Hello Wine Tasters!

We're off to visit the wonderful food of Santa Fe, New Mexico, a welcome relief from the summer heat and humidity of South Florida.

Early Libation: Pecos Pete's Sidewinder

Appetizer: Lobster and Green Chile Bisque with Toasted Corn Relish

Frie Brothers, Resv Chardonnay, 2002 Russian Rv

Salad: Caramelized Apple Salad with Maytag Blue, Black Walnuts, Spicy Orange Vinaigrette

MacMurray Ranch, Pinot Gris, 2003, Russian River

Entrée: Leg of Lamb with Red Chile Crust and Jalapeno Preserves, Black-Eyed Pea Risotto with Smoked Bacon & Swiss Chard

Red Bean Tamales with Roasted Tomato Salsa

McWilliams, Hanwood Est, Shiraz, 2003 Australia

Louis Martini, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2001, Napa Valley

Dessert: Caramelized Apple-Blackberry Cobbler

Bread: Sweet Potato Biscuit

Russian River, I was there recently... I detoured to Guerneville to check it out on my way back from Santa Rosa. Mainly because I have a picture of my father fishing there, around 1920. Darn, I need to get my home scanner workin'.

If you want to rough-house, there's a biker's bar just around the corner. Pass me the cheese popcorn. More jello-wine shooters for the ladies. You won't get rowdy from them, but great exercise for the tongue. Have a pleasant Sunday.

Umm, yes, it's a virtual pub and you can get anything you want. There are plenty of people to serve. Very Happy

Here is what is on special for tonight's tasting dinner:

Amuse Gueule of Raw Tuna and Cucumber Sunomono Roll-up

*******

Lobster Consommé with Lobster and Fine Herbes garnish

*******
Organic Beet Salad with 100 year old Balsamic, Walnut oil and Toasted Walnuts

*******
Grilled Sweetbreads on Rosemary Skewers with Sherried Shiitake Mushroom "Relish"

*******
Blood Orange Sorbet

*******
"Everything from a Saddle of Lamb" with Potato-Caramelized Onion Strudel, Spring Vegetables,
Garlic Confit and Jus

*******
Epoisses de Bourgogne

*******
La Grande Crème Caramel (serves many)

To carry through the amuse and soup, Bollinger Champagne, many vintages availible. For the beets and sweetbreads, we have Pinot Noir from Oregon or Niagara. The lamb, Penfold's Grange Hermitage, which will carry through the cheese. For the creme caramel, a well-aged Coteaux de Layon. The sommelier will have details about which vintages are in the cellar.

Otherwise, enjoy the pie and pub fare. We are an all-inclusive pub when it comes to individual tastes.

No sweetbreads Walter? The whipped cream is ready, done with a hand whisk, not a machine.

I think I'll forego all the appetizers and main courses and make a meal of the desserts. Pass that pie over here, Montana! (Extra whipped cream, of course.) And save me at least two of the creme caramels, cav. Let's see...what to drink...what to drink...

Sorry, I'm well-bred and couldn't answer with the mouth full of pie and cream.

I do hope, my pie wasn't thought to serve all!!!

Don't worry, there's plenty of pie to go around. I may have to help Cav with the whipped cream since everyone is asking for double cream.

Could someone be so kind as to grab me a glass of white wine :-D

Fine, thanks, Montana.

(I would have felt soooo guilty, if e.g. squinney wouldn't get some, and since I'll leave now ...)

I'll try the grilled sweetbreads with rosemary on skewers with that sherried shitake relish, that really sounds good, Cav, with the oregon pinot...

Ten packets of peanuts for me... thanks.... here's a fiver. Yes, a fiver. Keep it. You have five minutes left to spend it, right? The world's going to end. Yes, it really is going to end. If you like, yes. No. Now pardon me, I've got to go save my friend...

(runs off. £5 for anyone who can guess what that was from! Anyone?)
