Redheat: Your thread got locked because it was descending into a vulgarity-laced flamewar. Surprisingly enough, that violates the TOS here.

No one gets told why a thread gets locked down. It just gets locked. It's like an auto accident: you see the cars heading straight for each other, there's a terrific crash, and then the investigators search through the debris trying to figure out what exactly happened. On the other hand, the fact that there was a crash is a pretty good indication that something went wrong.

We all learn a little bit more from these episodes, Redheat. We learn, we move forward, we try to resist telling people to "go Cheney themselves," we all get along just a little bit better as a result.

OK but I've seen several threads do that. Plus why not delete the offending posts instead of closing the entire thread down.

Sorry I'm still confused almost every thread in here disengrates in some fashion. According to these rules you would not have a forum to post in.

I'm in the same boat, I pay taxes, I want the government to give me advance personalized notice of each thing they do. I pay them dammit.

It's not the same here, you use a free resource that others will pay for but hey, you use the site man, you registered. That means you are entitled to having personalized messages and maybe even permission for crying out loud.

Registering to a messgeboard is like that. People start owing you their time as a matter of principle, regardless of how much time they have and whether or not your demands are reasonable. It's like the principles of "customer support" without being a customer and while you are actually costing money. Nifty like that. If you ever disagree, demand free time from others, that's what they are there for.

I checked redheats locked thread and as expected, I do not appear anywhere on it.

May I suggest that you hotheads follow my example of civility, reasonableness and gentile speech to avoid this sort of unpleasantness in the future? Shocked Razz

Just lookin' at the stackup of the poll, we have at this time 32 votes. The distribution is 15% at 5, or center, with nearly 60% of the respondants choosing to claim for themselves a more left-than-center position, while fewer than a quarter assign to themselves a right-of-center designation. Interestingly, option 3, which position I would interpolate as translating to "decidedly left", with 21% of the vote, is the single largest category so far. To the right, the equally "decidedly" option 7, with 12% so far, is the leader. Any way I look at those figures, it appears to me at least a 2-to 1 self-professed bias leftwards is characteristic at least of the respondants to this poll. I would surmise that not an inaccurate representation of the overall "attitude" of the politically conscious of the website, though I admittedly have not determined whether or not the sample herein addressed is truly representative of the subject universe. While I suspect a larger number of members are, at least as regards interaction on the political threads (or more specically, lack thereof), apolitical, it does seem clear to me that of those who participate in the political rough-and-tumble here, those self-identifying as being of leftist bent significantly outnumber their rightist counterparts. Absent counter evidence, I am forced to conclude there are more left/liberals here than right/conservatives, and by a large enough margin as to render such conclusion more than just relatively likely of being correct.

So, lets not hear any more crap about this website being balanced, ok?

That is why I chose this board, I was on a mostly conservative board, but they was too darn smart for me. Now among the kerry crowd I are the smart one!

LOL, I agree, and having seen how most of the rest of the world wallows in filth and poverty, I would say that the world standard is nothing to aspire to or be proud of.

Lol! The world standards I speak of are other western democracies. (Cos I am shamefully ignorant of third world politics)

Still talking filth and poverty, dear?

But - the way the US tends to rate its right and left is very odd by standards of political theory.
