Time for the smackdown. As much as i love bacon, i'm going to go with ham. Maybe i'll explain lager, but right now, i've got a ham sammich to see to.

@Setanta,
to me they represent a different sort of good taste pleasure.

On the times that I'll eat meat and make a sandwich, I want ham. However, at brekkie, give me my 3 rashers of bacon.

@Setanta,
Now come on they come from the same "rib". I mean "pig"

I'll go prosciutto, hind legs kick well. No chemicals apparently either, with rock melon...

Yeah, melon rocks, no doubt . . . you can make a good sammich from cold ham, but cold bacon?

I beckon for bacon, mostly. We normally get ham for holidays and such.

@Setanta,
I've had cold bacon, think of the crunch BUT, you so have to dry that sucker off first of it's dribbling... dripping I mean.

Think I am dyslexic today.

@FOUND SOUL,
Speaking of dyslexia ...that reminds of the dyslexic, agnostic who had insomnia. He stayed up all night wondering if they're truly is a Dog.

@edgarblythe,
Ill go wiih Rags.Set's comparing different tastes. Clams or Oysters?

Sometimes a BLT is what I crave, other times its a ham and swiss with mayo.

Withdraw the question.

@farmerman,
Irish bacon is ham anyway. They have no taste over there. Its salty , all bentup when they serve it, and not even crispy.

At least fried ham for breakfast in the PA Dutch country is a sweet cured slice of very tender ham all cooked up and served in its own juice ,
DRRROOOOL

Scuze me. i need to kill a ham

@edgarblythe,
You know, when i was a kid, we'd cook a ham for a holiday. Not that pressed crapola with water added, but an honest to god ham, which told you there was a porcine amputee somewhere. You hardly ever see whole hams in the supermarkets these days, unless it's a holiday.

You know, something like this:

@Setanta,
That was going to be my choice--a real, unprocessed ham.

Can't have either these days, but I still love the aroma of both as they cook.

I do love real ham for the holidays with my family. Plus, there can be a lot left for all to have for followup sammies. But if push came to shove and I could only evermore have one meal with one of the choices, bacon it would be. I haven't had really good bacon in a while so of course I'd have to go around and sample all the best bacons. Mmmmmm. Opinions on the very best?

Shortly after I married the current wife, I came across one of those unprocessed hams and cooked it up for Thanksgiving. My father in law came over and it was possibly the best meal I ever cooked. He raved about it. In the euphoria over a good meal like that, he finally accepted me as a good choice for a son in law.

@Setanta,
Ham is a better topping for pizza if pineapple is a complementary topping. Bacon is a wonderful complement to cheeseburgers. Sorry for the flip floppy answer.
