You sound so like my father in sentiment, though he was a better stylist.
What would be an ideal meeting place for A2Kers?
In a hirondelle rocking and rolling around the highways and byways with the curtains down.
Does that sound any good?
On researching hirondelle I found a catamaran. That seems fun but of course impractical. Perhaps there is a further meaning.
Have you lived in places other than the one you live now?
Yes. Other than college, I lived in Phoenix, AZ for a couple of years.
How about you?
Born in Kent, lived in Surrey, school in Devon, Uni in London, moved to Aylesbury, then Oxford, then Delhi, then Sussex, then Hong Kong, now Totnes... but so many houses/flats!
Do you enjoy old movies?
Love 'em! I got hooked when I was home with the chicken pox at 13.
If you could live during any other time and place than now, where and when would it be?
When my grandchildren (assuming I have some) are grown up - right here in Totnes.
And you?
Don't look at me.
What have I done?
Hmmm. I'd like to try all different times, like a time traveler. I love MY life, but I wouldn't mind trying out say, Louisa May Alcott's, or a good friend of C.S. Lewis's - he fascinates me, or any significant time in history, and the list goes on!...
Say you had to change ONE thing about yourself. Is there any little quirk or physical thing about yourself you would change? What and why.
Emotionally, the one thing I would change is the fact that I so often feel restless. I think I would like to be more settled and serene - but maybe that would be boring- I don't know. Physically, I've always been okay with the attributes I was born with, but as the years go by, I wish I was getting younger instead of older- because I like my life and don't like to think of it changing with the years, perhaps having my activities limited as I get older and knowing that my time on earth grows shorter with every day that goes by.
Do you have a best friend? What is his/her name?
Other than my hubby, I have a best friend, since we were 13. Her name is Tammie.
You?
My best friend is a woman named Linda. She taught in the same school I did in the US. Sometimes I miss her desperately - but we talk on the phone a lot and she's coming to visit in October.
What are the ages of your children?
11 and 6.
Do you have any kids. If so, what are their ages?
Yes. Son (l6) daughter (13)
What's your favorite way to spend time with them?
Lots of things. You name it. My daughter loves to write and read her works to me, and play word games... My son likes to do the same with his stories, but he loves it when I make train tracks for any of his trains. We go to the beach, out to eat ...
What about you? What do you do with your teens?
My daughter and I spend a lot of time together. We both love to walk and love nature - so we go out in the woods a lot. She plays the violin and I play the piano - so we do duets. We both love to read so we go to the library together quite often. My son hangs out more with his friends, so I see him less and less and that makes me kind of sad. But when he's home, we joke around - we have the same sense of humor -so we watch stupid movies and reenact them - stuff like that.
Does their childhood seem to be going quickly to you - or does time seem to be standing still - in other words - does it feel like they'll be little forever - or can you picture them driving, etc?
Sounds like you have good relationships with them. Too fast! I remember when they were really young. It doesn't seem to have been near long enough! My daughter seems like a teen-ager already, attitude & all. My son has still got a little imp in him! Driving? Aauuuuuuugh! I try to take it one day at a time.
Are you politically active?
No - I'm ashamed to say that I'm too disillusioned with politics in the US to even participate actively anymore. I know that sounds bad - but I just can't support people that I can't trust and believe in - and the way politics goes in the US - I don't trust anyone involved. I just try to live a good life and be active and involved in my community.
Do you think that's a cop out?
I certainly do.It is defeatist and demonstrates conclusively that your expectations have been racked out of all proportion.
Have you ever tried looking at it that way?
Yes - I've been made to feel guilty about it many times by many people - you know - "you're vote is a privelege that people died to give you". I do feel I am copping out in some ways - but I also can't pretend to believe in a system that I think is totally corrupt.
Do you understand what I'm saying?
